How can your local Pharmacist help?

Pharmacists are experts in medicines and can help people with minor health concerns, offer clinical advice and over the counter medication for a range of minor illnesses such as coughs, colds, sore throats, tummy trouble and aches and pains.

If your symptoms suggest its something more serious, pharmacists have the right training to make sure you get the help you need. For example, they will advise you to contact a nurse or a GP if appropriate.

Good hand hygiene is the number one step to preventing illness and stopping the spread of viruses.

During the winter months children, the elderly and those with certain health problems are more prone to illnesses such as Norovirus (diarrhea & vomiting), Influenza (flu), Covid & other contagious illnesses. Many people with respiratory conditions find that their symptoms become worse during colder weather, which can lead to more severe illness resulting in hospital admission. More information about respiratory conditions can be found at: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/

Teaching children from a young age how to correctly wash their hands is a vital skill that helps to keep them safe and healthy throughout their lives. Did you know that our Community Nursery Nurses visit primary schools across Bradford, teaching Reception and Year 1 children about positive hand hygiene. Has your child's school accepted this offer?

Hearing screenings for children at reception age are typically part of a school entry health screening and are important for identifying issues that could affect a child's learning and development. We will commence this alongside NCMP (National Childhood Measurement Programme) in 2025.

Children with certain shunts should not undergo hearing screening by our team because the magnetic fields generated by some screening devices can unintentionally reprogram the shunt's magnetic valve. Instead, we will refer your child to an audiologist for a hearing assessment. This is because audiologists have special equipment to check hearing, which pose less risk.

This should be explained in the letters you will have received from school or will receive in the new year once they reopen. Please contact our team to discuss further on 01274 221203.

You are unique because you are you! There may be people like you, but they are not you! They don't have your distinct traits, talents, thoughts or feelings.

We try hard as a team to ensure that every child, young person or parent/ carer we work with feels listened to, seen and respected.

If we could give one thing to everyone, it would be the ability for others to see theirself through the eyes of the people that love and care for them.

🕎Happy Hanukkah! 🕎

Hanukkah is the Jewish Festival of Lights. The word 'Hanukkah' means 'Dedication' in Hebrew. It celebrates a miracle that happened in Jerusalem over 2,000 years ago. The celebration lasts for 8 days starting today. Hanukkah is celebrated by lighting one candle on a nine-stemmed candelabrum called a hanukiah each day. The hanukiah symbolises how God looked after the Jewish people during a difficult time. Lots of Jews call this candelabrum a menorah.

🦠Norovirus🦠also called the "winter vomiting bug", is a stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea. It can be very unpleasant, but usually goes away in about 2 days.

The main symptoms of norovirus are:
🤢feeling sick (nausea)
🤢diarrhoea
🤢being sick (vomiting)

You may also have:
🤢a high temperature
🤢a headache
🤢aching arms and legs

Norovirus can spread very easily. You can catch norovirus from:
-close contact with someone with norovirus
-touching surfaces or objects that have the virus on them, then touching your mouth
eating food that's been prepared or handled by someone with norovirus

🧼🫧Washing your hands frequently with soap and water is the best way to stop it spreading. Alcohol hand gels do not kill norovirus.🫧🧼
