Most of you will know by now that our beautiful little Shih Tzu, Oliver, passed away on 18th August 2022 after a sudden deterioration in his already rocky health. For some weird reason, FB wouldn't allow me to post his memorial tribute on this Page (though it could be Operator Error, I am known for technical ineptitude, even more so when my brain isn't really working...!)

We, very much including his Westie sister, Sophie, are missing him terribly. Even the fact that suddenly our lives are easier, and we can do more, feels wrong. But none of it is wrong. It's just grief. And we wouldn't want to not grieve for him. Soph is having homeopathic help, Elaine and I are choosing not to. Where we are, feels right.

He's still around us. Only this morning, this appeared on the living room floor. He brought it with him from his foster home (well battered by other foster dogs!) when he came to us 6 years ago - he carried it around a couple of times at first but then ignored it, and Sophie never bothered with it. Yet this morning, here it is.

Hi, gorgeous boy! We love your Hellos from Heaven! Please keep them coming! Love you always ###xx

Feeling very blessed….and very tired!

Are any of you going through that roller-coaster journey with your animal? The one that has more twists and turns than a corkscrew, with elevator ups and downs? This is where we are now with our beloved Shih Tzu Ollie.

Probably the gentlest dog in the world, he can create crisis in a heartbeat. His regime of eye drops, painkillers, heart meds, homeopathic remedies, seizure supplements, laser treatments and chiropractic, plus overnight demands for outside, make his care a full-time job. Totally worthwhile but broken sleep is very draining…..

And yet, he’s eating like a horse, his digestion is amazing, he greets us with a smile. He has never grasped the meaning of “No” and uses this to his full advantage! He doesn’t make great use of intuitive communication on a day to day basis but his energy says it all. He is absolutely not ready to leave.
And we have the one thing that makes our family outings still possible - his Bus. He sits or lies in it like a little king, bimbling a bit, riding a bit… and life is still good. And we are making the most of every moment.

If this is you too, and you need to vent, we’re here to listen. It's such an exhausting, precious time..... ❤️🐾😴🤬😬🐾❤️
