Today marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Week 💙

This year, we’re encouraging everyone in Bradford to take action for mental health.

Sometimes the smallest actions can make the biggest difference — checking in on someone, starting a conversation, or taking a moment to look after yourself. Together, these actions can help us all feel more hopeful, supported and positive.

Let’s come together this week to support positive mental wellbeing for everyone 💙

Always in our hearts. 🎗️

Always in our hearts. 🎗️

On this day 41 years ago, 54 Bradford City supporters and two Lincoln City supporters went to a football match and never returned home.

We will never forget those who sadly lost their lives, and as always, our thoughts are with their families and the hundreds still affected by the disaster to this day.

Always in our hearts. 🎗️

💛 Dying Matters Week 2026 💛

Dying Matters Week encourages us all to speak more openly about dying, death and grief - conversations that can be difficult, but are incredibly important. By talking, listening and sharing, we can help reduce fear and ensure people’s wishes are understood and respected.

At D Walsh & Son, we’re proud to support Dying Matters Week and stand alongside organisations like Hospice UK, who champion compassionate end‑of‑life care and support for people and families across the UK.

If you’d like to talk or have any questions, our team here in Bradford is always here to listen.

At D. Walsh & Son Funeral Directors, we are proud to be part of these important conversations every day. Whether we’re out in the community at local fairs, giving talks about the role of a funeral director, or simply supporting families, our aim is always to serve with care, compassion, and understanding.

One of the most difficult things we encounter is when families are unsure of what their loved one would have wanted. In those moments, the pressure to make the “right” decisions can feel overwhelming.

We understand that talking about death and dying isn’t easy. It can feel uncomfortable, and many people worry about saying the wrong thing or causing upset. But having these conversations early can make such a difference.

This Dying Matters Awareness Week, we want to help open up those conversations.

This year’s theme is “Let’s talk about death and dying.” Throughout the week, Hospice UK will be sharing their Top Talking Tips to help people start conversations around death, dying, and grief—breaking down taboos and encouraging more open dialogue.

Because talking about it really does matter.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pauline Ethel Baxter.

Pauline’s Service will be held on Friday 8th May at Rawdon Crematorium, Leeds @ 10am.

Family flowers only, however if you wish to make a donation in Pauline’s memory in will be for the benefit of the Special Care Baby Unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Pauline was born in Bradford on March 24th 1940 and lived in Wibsey. When she married she moved to Idle and brought up her family to then go back to Wibsey.

Pauline started her nursing career at 18 years old in 1958 at St Lukes hospital Bradford. Pauline became fully qualified at the age of 21 becoming a staff nurse in 1962. She soon started her training in Midwifery working on the special care baby unit.

Pauline adored her job as Sister in charge of Midwifery at St Lukes and pursued a long and successful career, retiring from the BRI in 1999. Pauline had helped and cared for so many families and babies in her life and the special baby unit always held a special place in her heart.

Pauline loved her Music, was a keen photographer, adored gardening and going on trips abroad and seaside holidays.

She leaves behind her 3 daughters Fiona, Jackie and Julie and her close family friends Paul and Ann.

Pauline was blessed with her 2 grandsons Christopher and Richard, granddaughter in law Emma and her granddaughter Louise who will miss her dearly. She also had 3 beautiful great grandchildren Teddy, Joey and Nellie.

Pauline was a special lady with a big heart who will live on in the hearts and memories of others.

🏍️ A Final Ride with Personality 🏍️

When it comes to saying goodbye, why not make it as unique as the life being celebrated?

For those with a passion for motorcycles or simply a love for the unconventional, a motorcycle hearse offers a striking and deeply personal alternative to the traditional hearse. Whether it's a final ride for a lifelong rider or a symbolic farewell for a free spirit, this option blends dignity with individuality.

Not only is it a fitting tribute for those who lived life on two wheels, but it’s also a powerful way to honour someone who lived boldly and authentically.

Modern, respectful, and meaningful – the motorcycle hearse is more than just transport. It’s a statement.
