It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the late Joan Oleskiw nee Hodgson on the 30th of July 2025.
Joan's funeral service will take place on Tuesday 26th August at St Winefride's Catholic Church, St Paul's Ave, Wibsey, BD6 1ST @ 12:30pm followed by the Committal at Park Wood Crematorium, Elland @ 2:15pm.
Family flowers only please, however if you wish to make a donation in the memory of Joan it will be for the benefit of The Alzheimer's Society.
Born Joan Hodgson in Laisterdyke and lived all her life in Bradford. Growing up in Thornbury Joan experienced being part of a happy and large family as the eldest of 13 children.
Joan went on to marry her Ukrainian husband, Teodor known as George, and they lived at Bradford Moor with their own family of 4 daughters. Although they did eventually divorce after 30 years of marriage.
Joan worked as a cook amongst other jobs such as sewing, waitressing, housekeeper, merchandiser and completing 20 years of loyal service at the Stansfield Arms at Dapperly Bridge.
In her spare time Joan took great pleasure in flower arranging, baking and cooking, reading, buying antiques, home making, travelling and she loved playing Scrabble, playing cards and thoroughly enjoyed social gatherings with family and friends.
Joan leaves behind her four daughters Andrea, Stephanie, Catherine and Krystyna. She was an absolutely wonderful and supportive Mother and was truly adored. She also leaves behind her two brothers and two sisters, six Grandchildren and seven Great Grandchildren.
Joan Oleskiw was a very kind person with a huge generosity of spirit, strong, determined and full of character. Joan will be greatly missed, a woman who loved and was loved by all.
