Our team was at the launch Thornton Community Centre yesterday, talking to local residents about volunteering opportunities with Together Talks and the service that we provide.

We had a great day - thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat! 😊

Here at Together Talks, we know just what a difference the simple act of conversation can have on someone’s life.

That’s why we are supporting Mind’s Time to Talk Day and would like to encourage our lovely Followers to do the same.

Talking about mental health helps to reduce stigma and creates supportive communities where we can talk openly and feel empowered to seek help when we need to. raises awareness of the power of conversation and challenges us all to have at least one conversation today about mental health.

Here are some pointers on how you can get involved:

🤗 Ask someone ‘how are you?’ twice, and LISTEN to their answer
👍 Share this post and quote to help raise awareness
☕️ Talk about mental health with a friend over a coffee
👀 Find a community group to join
👇 Share your top tips for talking in the comments and inspire others to get talking too

And most importantly...keep talking! 💙

Meet our Wonderful Volunteer, Bola!

We amplify your words with the hope to inspire others. Thank you, Bola.

“I love to volunteer because it's one way to give back to the society. I have a 9 to 5 job and cannot do any physical volunteering but the Telephone Befriender's flexibility has allowed do what I love to do and still live my normal work life. I love to listening to people, caring for them and showing empathy. I naturally love helping people and I appreciate the fact that sharing your worries with others is kind of therapeutic.

Covid-19 has made me understand even more how important people are in our lives and as social beings we need to interact with one another and show love to as many people as we can. The lockdown was a very difficult time for many people, especially for the lonely. Our reactions to the issues of life differ as some find it so harder to cope than others, and not everyone has a friend or family to go to or share their worries with.

I have a bigger vision in relation to helping more people and supporting the gospel mission work. I pray that God helps me achieve this dream. I have learnt from my volunteering experience that everyone desires to be loved and cared for, but not everyone is receiving these. I have also learnt that I need to be a little more patient with people generally because they could be going through a whole lot more than they can handle.”

Happy New Year all! How can we start this new year happier? Things have certainly not been easy over the last year, and we are still in difficult and uncertain times. The best way to try to handle our difficult emotions and experiences is by focusing on what we can control. This month, we're encouraging everyone to focus on small steps to try to boost happiness - for ourselves and others around us - to spread kindness and hopefully inspire others to do the same.
