"More than one in 10 children, in every classroom, are estimated to have an undiagnosed vision problem that is impacting their learning and development. The AOP's A B See campaign aims to help children reach their full potential through regular sight testing.

We recommend that children have a sight test, with an optometrist at their local opticians, around the age of three, so that conditions are picked up and treated early.

Did you know?
๐Ÿ‘“One in five children in the UK are short-sighted
๐Ÿ‘“A quarter (24%) of school age children haven't been taken for a sight test and one in 10 (10%) 16-year-olds still have unchecked vision
๐Ÿ‘“More than half (52%) of parents believe that every child has a full sight test at primary school, but this is not the case
๐Ÿ‘“74% of optometrists have seen children in the past year with vision problems that could have been treated more successfully if they had been diagnosed at an earlier age
๐Ÿ‘“One in 10 parents believe they must pay for sight tests for their child but all under 16s are entitled to an NHS funded sight test and vouchers towards the cost of glasses or contact lenses
๐Ÿ‘“Optometrists recommend that children have regular sight tests from around the age of three, to make sure any conditions are picked up and treated early
๐Ÿ‘“One in 50 children will develop amblyopia, commonly known as lazy eye. Amblyopia can become more difficult to treat as a child grows older so itโ€™s important to get their vision checked early
๐Ÿ‘“You donโ€™t need to wait until your child shows symptoms of an eye problem before taking them to your local opticians โ€“ an optometrist can examine a childโ€™s eyes at any age "

If you wish to participate, you are invited to provide your contact details using the online form at https://forms.gle/nr9xwQ2yqshBRjGN9 We will then contact with you.

Our Story

We offer a complete primary eye care service to the general public as well as to students and staff of the University and their families. We work closely with other healthcare professionals in the region, and welcome the referral of patients into any of our clinics for further diagnostic tests. A referral form is available for this purpose. In September 2017 we moved in to the Phoenix South West building as part of the new Digital Health Enterprise Zone (DHEZ) which incorporates other allied health services. We now have the benefit of larger and more comfortable testing rooms and a much improved layout. Parking is on the University campus at Longside Lane A car park.

Our staff include Optometrists, Orthoptists and Dispensing Opticians and have worked in a variety of settings including private and high street practice, hospitals and specialist clinics. We are currently working on developing some of our specialist services such as Ortho K contact lenses to control myopia progression, Visual Stress clinic and specialist spectacle dispensing clinic.
