Calling all EYFS Educators! 📢
Did you know that teaching First Aid can support all 7 areas of learning in EYFS? It’s not just about safety; it’s about communication, confidence, and learning through play!
With World Book Day here, it’s the perfect time to introduce First Aid through stories and hands-on activities. Here’s how First Aid links to the EYFS framework:
Prime Areas
🗣️ Communication & Language – Learning new words like "plaster" and "bandage," talking about people who help us.
🏃 Physical Development – Fine motor skills (sticking plasters), gross motor skills (practising the recovery position).
❤️ Personal, Social & Emotional Development – Understanding feelings, learning to stay calm, helping others.
Specific Areas
📖 Literacy – Exploring First Aid through books and recognising first aid symbols.
🔢 Mathematics – Counting breaths to stay calm, measuring bandages.
🌍 Understanding the World – Learning about paramedics, first aiders, and emergency services.
🎭 Expressive Arts & Design – Role-playing a first aider, drawing first aid kits.
Activity Idea: First Aid role play station!
A teddy, a toy phone, and a small first aid kit can turn playtime into a powerful learning experience.
💡 Would EYFS First Aid Activity Cards be helpful? We are thinking of creating a set to help little ones learn through play—let us know in the comments! 👇
