This summer, our Director, Gavin Milligan is taking on a half marathon to raise vital funds for + Lung UK.

As someone living with asthma and a director of a First Aid training company, which helps others understand how to respond to asthma emergencies, this cause is deeply personal to Gavin and us at GEM Compliance Training.

We're proud to stand behind a charity that supports education, research, and life-saving support for those living with lung conditions.

Let’s help Gavin go the extra mile — every step counts.

“He used to be the first one to arrive at work, always had a brew ready for everyone.
Lately? He’s barely speaking.
I didn’t know what to say — so I said nothing.”

If you’ve ever worried about someone at work but didn’t know how to help, you’re not alone.

🧠Poor mental health doesn’t just affect the person struggling; it impacts safety, morale, and even legal responsibilities.

We’ve put together a short post explaining:
✅ What Mental Health training can actually help with
✅ Why employers are now expected to take it seriously
✅ What to do when someone opens up to you

Calling all EYFS Educators! 📢
Did you know that teaching First Aid can support all 7 areas of learning in EYFS? It’s not just about safety; it’s about communication, confidence, and learning through play!

With World Book Day here, it’s the perfect time to introduce First Aid through stories and hands-on activities. Here’s how First Aid links to the EYFS framework:

Prime Areas
🗣️ Communication & Language – Learning new words like "plaster" and "bandage," talking about people who help us.
🏃 Physical Development – Fine motor skills (sticking plasters), gross motor skills (practising the recovery position).
❤️ Personal, Social & Emotional Development – Understanding feelings, learning to stay calm, helping others.

Specific Areas
📖 Literacy – Exploring First Aid through books and recognising first aid symbols.
🔢 Mathematics – Counting breaths to stay calm, measuring bandages.
🌍 Understanding the World – Learning about paramedics, first aiders, and emergency services.
🎭 Expressive Arts & Design – Role-playing a first aider, drawing first aid kits.

Activity Idea: First Aid role play station!
A teddy, a toy phone, and a small first aid kit can turn playtime into a powerful learning experience.

💡 Would EYFS First Aid Activity Cards be helpful? We are thinking of creating a set to help little ones learn through play—let us know in the comments! 👇
