We are a family owned and run independent opticians, situated in the small market town of Bingley. Our staff comprises a registered Optometrist and a registered Dispensing Optician as well as our Senior Optical Adviser.
The Practice was started in 1951 by Donald Eric Howarth (David’s father) and moved to 158 Main Street in the 1970’s when the row of shops we were in was knocked down to build the Arts Centre.
David Howarth qualified as an Optometrist in 1985 after studying in London and Hull, also gaining a masters in Optometry from Bradford University in 1988. He took over the practice from his father in 1986. A very experienced and thorough clinician, many hours spent in the practice as a youngster have given him a unique understanding of spectacle repairs and ophthalmic lenses. He has recently gained a certificate in Glaucoma Management from Bradford University.
Helen Howarth qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 1997 after joining the practice in 1993. She is a bit of a geek about ophthalmic lenses and can talk for hours on the subject. Just tell her you trust her judgement and she’ll stop!
Debra Brooksbank has been with us since 1993 and will be celebrating 26 years service this year. For many years she has been our Senior Optical Adviser and is very experienced in helping you choose the right pair of frames and lenses for your needs. She is popular in the local community and known for her friendly manner. She also efficiently keep the practice paperwork (and the rest of the staff!) in order.
We have a reputation for excellent customer care and attention to detail. We are also known for our friendly staff and interesting and varied selection of spectacle frames offering excellent value for money.

As well as stocking a range of eye care products and accessories, we also offer expert advice on minor eye conditions and treatments.
