Defib pad placement is important. Positioning the pads correctly can double someone’s chance of survival.

While these two examples appear similar, side A is the correct way to place the pads. The key difference is that the pad on the left hand side of the chest has been placed on the side of the rib cage, closer to the armpit.

I see a lot of posts from people looking for airway management heads, so I thought I’d share details of one I got delivered today that’s reasonably priced and works well. And no I am not selling anything.

Like many of us who teach airway management, finding an affordable airway head can be tricky. I’ve got two full-body advanced Resusci Anne airway manikins, but for smaller courses they’re not exactly easy to lug around.

When I first started, I had my eye on a Laerdal airway head – but at £1,000–£1,500, it just wasn’t in my budget. Like many others, I tried eBay. My first airway head (first photo) was okay but not fully anatomically correct – the nose didn’t have two true nasal passages. I then bought a Simulaids face for overseas trauma training when I couldn’t take a full airway head. Later, I picked up an airway torso (in the polo shirt) from Amazon for about £300 – decent for CPR and demos, but not very rugged (the head came off!).

Today, my Temu airway management head arrived – just £260! After a quick test, it performs really well for BVM, OPAs, NPAs, and iGel, with clear lung movement. The only drawbacks so far are that it’s on a heavy wooden base and doesn’t include a carry bag – but for the price, it feels like a real bargain.
