Before Cancer. After Cancer. After Everything

Before my diagnosis, my goals looked like most people's. A career. A home. A growing family. Simple, beautiful things.

Cancer has a way of stripping everything back to what truly matters.

I have faced surgery that lasted 12 hours. I have stopped breathing. I have watched my son at just 6 years old tell me he was going to miss me, unable to meet my eyes, because he didn't expect me to survive.

And yet, here I am.

What I want now looks nothing like what I wanted before. It isn't about achieving, it's about being.

Being present for my husband.
Being a guide for my children in this life and beyond.
Being a daughter who shows up for her mother.
Being at peace.

First doctor in the family. Second to go to university, after my sister.

None of this would exist without my parents: immigrants from Pakistan who arrived in the UK with no English, no understanding of the culture, and virtually no money. They worked for everything they had. They gave everything for us.

I stand here only by the grace of God and the countless sacrifices of my parents.

To anyone who doubts whether their dreams are possible: let this be proof that they are. As my dad used to always say, "Do your best and leave the rest to God."

To everyone who has a dream in mind that they think its impossible right now: its not. Follow your dreams. You can do this. I am proof of it 💪🏻
