Clarendon Medical Centre

Clarendon Medical Centre It was always the ambition and dream of Dr Bindu to have a modern purpose built premises in order to provide outstanding healthcare services for the community.

Clarendon Medical Centre is a long-established GP practice in inner-city Bradford, providing inclusive, compassionate care to diverse communities, with outstanding support for vulnerable patients. Dr Bindu has been an inspiration to the community and practice and her driving philosophy has been, ‘Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached’

The practice was initially based at Southfield

Square and later briefly merged with Dr Qureshi’s practice based at St Paul’s Road. This materialised in 1986 when the practice was allocated and purchased land from Bradford Council at it’s existing site and work commenced on phase one of the development in October 1987 and was completed in Easter of 1988. Phase 1 Initially had one consulting rooming for the doctor and a room for the nurse/health visitor with a shared waiting room. In 1991 work commenced on phase two of the development resulting in further expanding the premises with a larger waiting room and three further consulting rooms. This was still insufficient to meet the needs of the patients and phase three of the development commenced in 1997 with an extension on the east wing included a theatre with a recovery room, library, expansion of the existing waiting room, alternative waiting room, consulting room and a practice manager room was added.

Dr Claire was 27 when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

It started with symptoms she could have easily ignored but after a couple of weeks, Claire knew something wasn’t right and contacted her GP.

After tests and scans, Claire was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She went on to have surgery, chemotherapy and regular follow-up care.

‘I wanted to share my story because knowledge is power. I’ll do anything I can to help share the symptoms of ovarian cancer with as many people as possible. It can happen to anyone.’

Claire has since returned to work as a doctor – and is back doing the things she loves, while using her experience to help more people know the signs.

Ovarian cancer symptoms can include:

-feeling bloated or swollen tummy
-pain/tenderness in tummy or pelvis
-feeling full quickly or losing appetite
-an urgent need to p*e or go more often

Know your normal. If something is new, persistent or unusual for you – and you think it might be cancer – contact your GP.

NHS bowel cancer screening kits are offered to everyone aged between 50 and 74.

They can help find cancer early, before you even have any symptoms. And the earlier cancer is found, the easier it can be to treat.

When your kit arrives, put it by the loo. Don’t put it off.

Let someone else know they should send their kit back – especially as April is Bowel Cancer Awareness month.
