💊 Medicine Supply Pressures 💊

Rising tensions between the US and Iraq have disrupted the Strait of Hormuz, delaying shipments for healthcare. With around half of the UK’s medicines imported, there are increasing concerns about potential NHS shortages.
Pharmacies across England are already experiencing supply challenges.

At Westcliffe Pharmacy, we are working hard every day to secure the medicines our patients need. This often involves:

• Sourcing alternative brands
• Liaising with prescribers for safe substitutions

UK medicine supplies risk disruption as the US-Israeli war on Iran impacts the Strait of Hormuz, raising costs and threatening NHS drug availability.

We would like to inform our patients that high-strength Co-codamol is expected to be in limited supply until the summer.

Thankfully, we are currently still managing to obtain stock. We have placed bulk orders and hope our supply will last until the national shortage improves.

However, if our stock does run out, we have you covered. Our pharmacy team can contact your GP practice to request an alternative prescription.

Co-codamol is a combination of paracetamol and codeine, commonly prescribed for pain and inflammation, as well as post-operative or injury-related discomfort.

If the Co-codamol supply becomes completely unavailable, we can still provide the treatment by supplying the two individual medications that make up Co-codamol, ensuring you can continue your pain management with minimal disruption.

If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to a member of our pharmacy team — we are always happy to help.

Prescription-strength co-codamol supplies are expected to remain limited until the summer, the Scottish Government has said.
