During a reiki session, the client lies fully clothed on a treatment couch, or sits in a chair, in a peaceful environment. The practitioner gently places their hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or over the body, the energy flows through the practitioner’s hands into the client. They may feel heat from the practitioner’s hands, tingling, coolness, an emotional release, restlessness, see coloured lights, other sensations…or nothing at all. Whatever you feel, or don’t feel, is perfectly normal. The treatment usually lasts about an hour and is carried out in silence with music playing in the background, you may feel very relaxed and drift in and out or even fall asleep.

Reiki is a Japanese energy-balancing method. The Japanese word Reiki means universal energy. Eastern medicine has always recognised and worked with this high vibrational healing energy, which flows through all living things and is vital to well-being. The energy is known as ‘ki’ in Japan, ‘chi’ in China, and ‘prana’ in India. Reiki is a natural healing energy activated by intention. It works on every level, not just the physical, and promotes the body’s regenerative self-healing ability. The purpose of reiki is to treat holistically, rather than treat any specific disorders, and helps to promote deep relaxation and natural healing.
