🐾Bobby's Journey at Blue Skies Veterinary Physiotherapy🐾
Bobby began his treatment at Blue Skies Veterinary Physiotherapy following a diagnosis of Biceps Tendinitis. This condition is a type of repetitive strain injury caused by overuse of the biceps tendon, often seen in sporting or highly active dogs. In Bobby’s case, the culprit was repetitive ball throwing.
While ball throwing may seem like harmless fun, it’s actually one of the most common causes of musculoskeletal injury in dogs. Many dogs become fixated on the ball and, driven by adrenaline, ignore signs of pain or fatigue. This can lead them to push through discomfort, worsening existing injuries and increasing the risk of long-term damage. In addition to physical strain, repetitive ball play can also contribute to behavioural issues such as hyperactivity and obsessive behaviours.
A great alternative to ball throwing are interactive games like “hind and seek” using toys. These types of activities are mentally stimulating and far less likely to cause the high-impact movements, such as sudden twists, jumps, and turns that lead to repetitive strain injuries, arthritis, and even spinal problems.
Bobby has been an absolute pleasure to treat. He LOVES his massages and responds beautifully to his sessions. His physiotherapy program has included Class IV laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, manual therapies (including massage), and a tailored program of rehabilitation exercises. Thanks to his progress, Bobby has now transitioned to maintenance Class IV laser sessions.
