The theme of today’s Mama & Baby Circle was one that so many of us feel deeply… the maternal mental load and what it means to be the “default parent.” 💭

As each mama shared her experiences, there were knowing nods, little laughs of recognition, and a real sense of “yes, me too.” It’s incredible how quickly the room fills with understanding when we speak openly about the invisible weight we carry every day.

To fit the theme (and raise a smile), I cheekily gifted each mum a decision-making coin — with “daddy’s turn” on one side and “mummy’s turn” on the other. A gently funny reminder that the load shouldn’t always fall on just one parent 💜

I’m always so proud of how honest and supportive our circles are. There’s something really healing about being able to say it out loud, over a hot cup of tea (and a biscuit or two 🍪), with other mums who just get it.

And of course, we ended on a lighter note with baby yoga — lots of flying babies and zooming to the moon 🚀👶✨

Our circles run every week and are such a beautiful mix of connection, support, and movement:
🌸 Tuesday – Coggeshall Village Hall
🌸 Wednesday – Black Notley
🌸 Thursday – Rae’s Island
🌸 Friday – Marks Farm

You don’t have to carry it all alone — come and join us 💜

📣 Please read – important update for today’s taster session!

Last time I ran a taster, mums were booking the full course on their phones halfway through… and by the time they got to the car park, every single space had SOLD OUT!

The response for today’s baby massage taster has been incredible – I’m so excited to welcome you! 💜

But… the 10-week course starting 11th September is now almost sold out, and there simply aren’t enough spots for everyone at the taster to continue. Once it’s full, we won’t have space at Rae’s Island again until JANUARY 2026!

If you already know in your heart this is something you’d love to be part of, please book your full course place right now so you don’t miss out – they really are disappearing fast.

It’s going to be such a beautiful journey, and I’d love for you and your little one to share it with us. 💜

💜 We’re feeling the love 💜

Today a local mama asked on social media which baby group she should try… and before we even saw the post, our amazing mamas jumped in with the most incredible recommendations.

They weren’t asked, prompted, or tagged by us – they just shared from the heart. And honestly… we’re a little bit overwhelmed and a lot grateful 🥹💜

Here’s just a tiny glimpse of what they said:

✨ “Best decision I made on maternity leave”
✨ “Made the best group of friends”
✨ “It’s just fantastic”
✨ “Carla is so lovely and so is Isabella”
✨ “Met some wonderful people”
✨ “Have made genuine friends”
✨ “The ladies who run the classes are so so lovely and make you feel SO at ease”

To every mama who has ever recommended us, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You’re the reason this community is so special, and why so many mamas walk through our doors feeling instantly welcome.

Here’s to more baby snuggles, more hot cuppas, and more lifelong friendships 💜

You can be so proud of breastfeeding and it doesn’t mean you are against bottle feeding ✨

Here’s the next beautiful and honest story in this series — this time from .

Beth has had two really positive breastfeeding experiences, but she also wanted to share the side of breastfeeding that often gets talked about less — the emotional load, the judgment, and the quiet pressure that can come from others, even when things are going well.

“I’ve had two very positive experiences with breastfeeding — and I’m so grateful for that — but that doesn’t mean it’s been without its challenges.

I had mastitis more times than I can count, and it left me feeling incredibly poorly. But even beyond the physical, the emotional side of breastfeeding was huge.

The judgment really got to me — I’d often be asked, as soon as both of mine turned one, ‘When are you going to stop?’ as if I had to.

Looking back, I think I stopped before I truly wanted to with Eddie.

I was also told things like ‘It’s not fair on the dad, he can’t do anything’ — but can’t he?!

And then there’s the flip side — sometimes I felt like I couldn’t be proud of breastfeeding around bottle-feeding mums in case they thought I was against formula.

But you can be proud. And it doesn’t take away from anyone else’s journey.

YES to all of this 🙌

This week is about every version of feeding — the messy, the magical, the empowering and the emotional. And it’s also about holding space for pride, even if your journey was “easier” or “harder” than someone else’s — because every experience matters.

If you’ve got something to share — however small — I’d love to hear it. 💜

“My daughter ‘fed herself’ just after birth and it ended up a daunting spectacle”

I’m so grateful to every mama who has taken the time to send in their journey so far. These stories are honest, emotional, and full of strength and I’m honoured to share .

“I only ended up breastfeeding for 2 weeks and it took my mum to sit me down and say you’ve got to stop, you’re going to get sick!

My daughter ‘fed herself’ just after birth and it ended up a spectacle — the midwives called in other midwives to see what was happening, which was daunting! But… I haemorrhaged after birth and lost just over 2 litres of blood. I was ambulanced from Braintree to Broomfield.

After that, my milk came in, but I was so, so weak — and blood clots and many hospital visits later, I just couldn’t manage. I cried all day, every day. I wanted to drop her when I picked her up. I started resenting my beautiful little girl.

Switching to formula was life changing.

She now barely wants milk and eats almost as much as her 6-year-old niece at just 13 months old — if it’s edible, she’s going to eat it!

We ended up switching to dairy-free formula, which saved us for the first 6 months. Thank God for the NHS.”

Holly’s story is one of so many that show how feeding is never just about milk — it’s about mental health, recovery, safety, and survival.

There is no “one way” to feed your baby, but you deserve to be supported in whatever way is right for you and your little one.

If you have a story you’d like to share this week — whether you breastfed for 2 days, 2 years, or not at all — please do send me a message. Every story helps another mama feel less alone 💜

“I threw myself into asking for support from health visitors, midwives, feeding groups and anyone who would listen and met some amazing people.”

This is the third story I’m sharing today — each one is so different, so powerful, and so needed.

This time, it’s from — who, like so many mums, has experienced both the beauty and the struggle of breastfeeding. Her words capture just how complex this journey can be.

“While I wouldn’t say my breastfeeding journey so far has been easy, I do feel like the correct support has helped us make it to 12 months.

I remember staying overnight in hospital for monitoring, my husband sent home and being left with my baby who I could barely lift as my arms were so weak after labour. I will never ever forget the midwife who came in to help me feed her at 2am — quiet, calm and softly spoken — who sat with me and gave me some advice.

We experienced lots of pain, blocked ducts and blisters in the first few months so I threw myself into asking for support from health visitors, midwives, feeding groups and anyone who would listen and met some amazing people.

I then experienced a baby who didn’t take a bottle, and still never has, which meant the little opportunities I had for some me time either couldn’t happen or had to be meticulously planned. It was so isolating, lonely and overwhelming being the only one who could feed and settle her, especially when my husband desperately wanted to help too.

Our journey has and continues to be messy, magical, isolating, incredible, full of love but also loneliness, emotional and empowering.

But the overwhelming feeling I have is that help, advice and support needs to be accessible for everyone. Without the support we had, no doubt our journey would look very different.”

Lucy has been part of the Basking Babies family from pregnancy circles through to baby massage, baby yoga and mama & baby circles — and I feel so honoured to share her experience today.

If you’re reading this and parts of Lucy’s story resonate with you — please know you are not alone.

And if you’d like to share your own feeding experience we’d love to hear from you x

“I truly found it the hardest thing ever and it destroyed my first 6 weeks with Oliver” 💜

For Breastfeeding Awareness Week I’ve asked some of the wonderful mamas in our community to share their breastfeeding journeys — the honest, messy, beautiful, and everything-in-between moments — to help other mums feel less alone.

I’m so grateful to for sharing her journey with us.

Here’s Chloe’s story 💭

“I truly found it the hardest thing ever and it destroyed my first 6 weeks with Oliver (when I then moved to formula). He was 3 weeks early, a tiny thing, and hospitalised at day 5. Syringe fed, tube fed, bottle fed, breast fed… it was just too much for him and me. I must have cried every day during this time.

After I had Harriet, I was so worried, but she was fine with both breast and bottle. Why no babies are ever the same!”

Chloe joined us for the full Basking Babies journey — pregnancy circles, baby massage, baby yoga, mama & baby circles — and we’re so grateful to her for opening up and sharing her experience.

Every journey looks different, and every single one is valid 💜

Whether you breastfed for 2 days, 2 months or 2 years… whether you mixed, expressed, or formula fed from the start — you are not alone.

If you’d like to share your story this week (anonymously or not), please send me a message. I’d love to hear it, and so would another mum who might just be needing your words 💫

The final time I breastfed my baby was in the waiting area of Broomfield’s paediatric unit.

🤍 I howled holding her after the paediatrician was dismissive, unkind, had no compassion and essentially told me to give up and move on.

Our whole journey was traumatic and it broke my heart.

💜 Pearl had her tongue tie cut twice, intolerances, chiropractic and osteopathic care.

Nothing worked.

I cut dairy, soya, egg, gluten, oats, red meat and more from my diet. My weight plummeted and with it my milk supply.

Nothing worked.

🤍 I would stare at mums feeding their babies with seeming ease.

Babies who would peaceful lay in their mums arms visibly enjoying the milk and love them mamas were giving them. That wasn’t our journey.

💜 I didn’t think we’d ever get past it. I didn’t know what it all meant. I was hugely let down by some of the health care professionals I begged and cried out to for help.

But, slowly but surely as the need for milk decreased my chubby, smiley, content baby began to emerge.

🤍 If like me you find breastfeeding awareness week very bitter sweet, you are not alone.

I love the awareness it brings to the challenges but struggle to remember my own experiences.

📸 Pearl is now the ultimate Foodie. She’s never met a food she didn’t like! 🤍
