On Sunday 7 September a nationwide test of the UK’s emergency alert service will take place. For 10 seconds, your phone will vibrate and there will be a loud siren sound.

If you have a phone hidden from an abuser, you should turn this alarm off to keep you safe.

To opt out on both iPhone and Android phones:
◾Search your settings for ‘emergency alerts’
◾Turn off ‘severe alerts’ and ‘extreme alerts’
