Pelvic physiotherapy and Pilates offers specialist assessment and treatment for pelvic floor dysfunction (including pre and post gynaecological surgery and radical prostate surgery), pregnancy related pain and post natal care and advice. Dee Woodcock is currently training with the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine to expand her skills in sexual dysfunction. The three main types of pelvic floor d
isorders are: Urinary incontinence, or lack of bladder control. Pelvic organ prolapse, a condition in which the uterus, bladder and bowel may "drop" onto the va**na and cause a bulge through the va**nal canal - very commonly noticed by women reaching menopause. Pelvic physiotherapy can have a number of positive outcomes. For some clients it is life-changing. It can help to:
* reduce pain
* restore and/or improve function
* be more active and exercise with confidence
* remain dry on coughing or sneezing
*hold on instead of having to rush to the toilet
* cut down the frequency of visits to the toilet
* manage prolapse symptoms and reduce any feelings of discomfort
* take control of bowel problems
* resolve certain kinds of sexual dysfunction
* improve quality of life
All consultations are confidential and sensitively conducted. Many clients have suffered for years before being able to seek help. They are often surprised and reassured, to hear how common pelvic floor problems are. Musculo-skeletal problems are common in pregnancy. Some are classed as 'normal' pregnancy aches and pains. Others cause severe discomfort and distress. Pelvic physiotherapy will assess posture, body alignment and muscle imbalance and then plan a treatment to restore normal function and reduce pain. Pilates aims to strengthen the body with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and well-being. An hour of Pilates can leave you physically tired and mentally rested. Concentrating purely on your own body and breaths can be surprisingly mindful. A real treat in a busy life. Pelvic physiotherapy and Pilates offer one to one Pilates sessions suitable for for beginners who may later wish to join a class. Pilates in pregnancy is also a specialty offered by Pelvic physiotherapy and Pilates. Dee Woodcock has previously completed the Australian Physio and Pilates Institute antenatal Pilates training. Pelvic physio & Pilates is running reduced clinics. This avoids congestion in waiting rooms and allows for clinic room cleaning and airing between clients. Staff are wearing appropriate PPE and request all clients to wear face coverings and use hand sanitiser offered on arrival. Exemptions to face coverings can be discussed on an individual basis.
