What is Athletes foot and how do we prevent it?
Athleteโs foot (medical name: tinea pedis) is a common fungal infection of the skin on the feet, which thrive in warm, moist environmentsโlike inside shoes or public showers.

๐ What Is Athleteโs Foot?
โข. A contagious skin condition.
โข. Most commonly affects the spaces between the toes, but can spread to the soles, sides of the feet and can spread to the toenails.

๐๏ธ What Does It Look Like?
Common signs include:
1. Peeling or cracking skin between the toes
2. Redness and inflammation.
3. Itching, burning, or stinging sensations.
4. Small blisters that may ooze or crust over.
5. Dry, scaly skin on the soles or sides of the feet (sometimes mistaken for eczema or dry skin).
6. Foul odor in more severe cases.

๐ How Is It Treated?
๐ Over-the-Counter (OTC) Treatments:
โข. Topical antifungal creams/powders/sprays, such as:
Caneston cream and lamisil spray
๐ก How to Use:
โข. Apply twice daily for 5-7 days, even if symptoms improve earlier.
โข. Wash and dry feet thoroughly before applying medication.

๐งผ Prevention Tips:
โข. Keep feet clean and dry, especially between the toes. Get your feet out and air them as much as you can.
โข. Change your socks daily and avoid tight, non-breathable footwear.
โข. Use antifungal powder/spray in shoes or socks.
โข. Wear flip-flops in public showers, pools, and changing rooms.
โข. Donโt share towels, shoes, or socks.
