Day 2 of UK Care Week at the NEC Birmingham 🫂

We've seen live product demonstrations, taken part in further training, seen loads of interactive stands and viewed some interesting client focused technologies 😃

Some of these have included:

The Virtual Dementia Tour - 'which is all about understanding what a person living with dementia experiences daily to gain a greater understanding. Only by being able to walk in the shoes of a person living with dementia can we truly understand the changes that we need to make to improve the quality of care, improve environments, improve attitudes and really improve lives.'

RNIB - who provide training, advice and information, best practice, policy information and research when working with people who have sight loss. They will be providing guidance, training and resources to help us support our blind and partially sighted clients.

The PainChek® App - is the world’s first clinically proven digital pain assessment tool. 😣

It's been a very busy couple of days! We're now looking forward to heading back to Cumbria with all of this new information 😁📝

UK Care Week is an 'inclusive event that provides industry-defining content, live product demonstrations and interactive features to equip you with the skills and knowledge to improve the lives of those you care for'.

We've already talked with, and heard from some industry leading businesses and experts, including Alzheimer's Society , NHS England , Log my Care , CQC, EF training Ltd , Homecare Association and many more!!

What causes sleep problems in dementia? 🤔

Helpful information from Dementia UK ⬇️

There are a number of reasons why someone with dementia may experience sleep problems. 💤

They may sleep excessively during the day, experience confusion at bedtime or have a reduction in the sleep hormone, melatonin.

However, by establishing good habits during the day, at bedtime and during the night, you can help the person with dementia to sleep better. 😴

The next Comfort Cafe is on Thursday 23rd November at Brampton Community Centre.

All are welcome 🫂

Eden Valley Hospice Bereavement Counsellor & Care Coordinator, Emma Andrews, leads the session.

Eden Valley Hospice's next Comfort Cafe will be held on 23 November at Brampton Community Centre.

It aims to provide a safe, friendly space for bereaved people to meet on the 4th Thursday of every month from 10am-noon. In December it will be on December 28 - a difficult time for for those coping with loss.

Emma Andrews, Bereavement Counsellor & Care Coordinator at the Hospice, leads the sessions. No formal referral is needed – people are invited to just pop along.

🌍 Today is World Diabetes Day 🌍

Type 2 diabetes accounts for more than 90% of all diabetes.

Did you know that almost 1 in 2 people with diabetes do not know they have it?

🤔 What are the signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes?

⭐ Feeling very tired
⭐ Feeling thirsty all of the time
⭐ Peeing more than usual
⭐ Weight loss, without trying
⭐ Wounds taking longer to heal
⭐ Blurred vision

🔔 Know your risk - you're more likely to develop type 2 diabetes if you:

⭐ Have a close relative with diabetes
⭐ Over 40
⭐ Are of Asian, African-Caribbean or black African origin
⭐ Overweight

See a GP if you have any of the symptoms of type 2 diabetes or are concerned that you're at higher risk.

The earlier diabetes is diagnosed, and treatment started, the better.
