Here's How to Find Out and Choose the Right Footwear!

Bunions can develop over time due to wearing shoes that don’t fit properly. Tight, narrow shoes place pressure on your toes, leading to discomfort and conditions like bunions. But how do you know if your shoes are too tight? Here's a simple check you can do at home:

How to Check if Your Footwear is Wide Enough:

🖊️ Draw Around Your Foot: Take a blank piece of paper and place your foot on it. Trace around the outline of your foot with a pen.

👟 Check the Insole: Take the insole out of your shoe and place it on top of your foot outline.

🔍 Look for Pen Marks: If the insole leaves a mark beyond the outline of your foot, it might be too narrow!

👟 What Footwear Is Appropriate for Bunions?

Wide Toe Box: Look for shoes with a rounded or wide toe box to reduce pressure on your toes.

Soft, Flexible Materials: Shoes made of leather or breathable fabric can offer more comfort and allow for expansion.

Proper Arch Support: This helps in distributing pressure evenly across your feet, reducing the risk of bunions.

Fastenings to Support the Midfoot: Look for shoes with adjustable fastenings (like Velcro straps or laces) that provide support and help stabilize the midfoot.

Parents everywhere are heading to the high street footwear stores to have their children’s feet measured

Now when was the last time someone measured your child’s feet whilst they are standing up?

The high street stores can (and should in my opinion) measure your child’s feet whilst weight bearing just politely request it, no joy just ask for the supervisor and explain, I successfully did this just yesterday 😊
