BSDHT's strategic plan is the basis upon which the Society operates.

The British Society of Dental Hygiene & Therapy, BSDHT (formerly British Dental Hygienists' Association, BDHA) was set up in 1949 by a group of 12 dental hygienists who felt the time was right to organise a professional association to represent the interests of their profession. Over 60 years later, the BSDHT is a nationally recognised body that represents over 3,000 members across the UK and beyond. OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of BSDHT is to represent the interests of members and to provide a consultative body for public and private organisations on all matters relating to dental hygiene and therapy. We aim to work with other professional and regulatory groups to provide the highest level of information to our members as well as to the general public. The Society seeks to increase the range of benefits offered to members and to support this with a clear business and financial strategy. The Society will continue to work to increase membership for the benefit of the profession

OUR SOCIETY AIMS TO:

* Represent members at national level, particularly in the political arena
* Provide services to members
* Support members on issues which affect their working lives
* Produce a publication that educates, updates and inspires
* Provide CPD opportunities, both locally and nationally
* Help members to find employment and provide guidance on contractual matters
* Listen to members and respond accordingly. It directs the decision making processes within the Society and provides mechanisms to monitor progress and success. The plan is all embracing and affects all aspects of the Society's business.

BSDHT President Rhiannon Jones was delighted to accept the kind invitation to the OCDO's roundtable event today, to be updated on the great work happening in England. We were all tasked with discussing 'Skill Mix' and to ask if we are ready for the government's 10 year health plan.
It was a room full of passionate leaders who came together to acknowledge the issues and discuss solutions. Rhiannon was able to raise the concerns from members, when possible, her main takeaways were:
🔹 The DHSC are aware that they need to incentivise DH and DTh to work in the NHS
🔹 DH and DTh are not simply a 'cheaper' workforce and clear pathways need to be developed to help us progress
🔹There is a real appetite for collaboration and shared knowledge.
🔹 We are going deaf to the term 'skill mix', should we consider 'optimising the workforce' or something similar?
After a busy week travelling on behalf of the Society and its members, it was great to end the journey with such an appetite for improvement and collaboration.

We're excited to announce that a new workshop has been added to the BSP day of workshops and symposia on Thursday 27 November, prior to the Oral Health Summit. Join GC and Prof Anton Sculean for a hands-on workshop on Potential of carbonate apatite in periodontal and bone regeneration, which will present the biological basis and clinical rationale for the use of Cytrans Granules in periodontal and bone regenerative procedures, and provide hands-on training in the application of Cytrans Granules for such procedures. A packed couple of days sharing ideas and common concerns in our profession, with a lovely tour of the city by the host nation (Czech Republic 🇨🇿, it was the UK last year).
