These beautiful sponge crabs found in our coasts make hats out of the sponge that’s around them. The sponge produces nasty chemicals as a defence mechanism to deter animals from eating it and it tastes disgusting. Therefore the sponge crab like to wear this sponge as a hat so that it is less likely to get eaten! We love finding out the clever ways animals find ways of protecting themselves.
