Using the Wall as a prop, tool, support, challenge offers so many added benefits to your Yoga or Pilates routine. Often we think of the chair or wall as 'cheats' way out but often these pieces of furniture equipment that can be found anywhere can really add diversity, variety and make any Yoga/Pilates exercise more dynamic and challenging --- or easier and supportive dependent on what you need for that day.

The Art of Qigong : Dragon Series : Fire Element

2025 is the Year of the Wood Dragon (shedding for new growth, vitality and Wisdom). The West always view the Dragon as fire blowing monsters that reign havoc. In Eastern culture the Dragon is a positive symbol associated with power, the fire as heavenly breath, prosperity, fluid of movement represents water and seeks to obtain the magical elusive Pearl, represents 'truth', 'Universal Qi' and 'Enlightenment'.

In today's Qigong practice, we work with some Dragon forms, movements and exercises. Usually these exercises may involve twisting, turning, screwing, spiraling, curving, wiggling, undulating, spinning, sinking down and rising up, swimming, circling, swinging, or twining movements.

The Art of Qigong : FIRE ELEMENT : Triple Warmer

What can I say about Triple Warmer.... It's complex and multi-faceted. TCM refer to it as San Jiao, archetypal is the Energizer or Fierce Protector, and the three or Triple burners or the three burning spaces. Energetically it is also a Radiant Circuit, reservoir of energy that we can tap into, and part of the Immune system which TCM refer to as the Wei Qi.

In TCM our Immune System begins an arms length away from the body, if we come into contact with invasion, threat, insult, toxin, virus's our Wei Qi field is triggered into a response.

That response might be the fight, flight or freeze response, linked to autoimmune issues like allergies and/or any sort of Stress response, like the Primitive reflexes. Once activated it can be hard, to switch Triple Warmer back of into Calm, Relax, Safe Mode.

Like any heat source to burn, it requires lots of energy. Staying in the fight or flight will ultimately drain our energy reservoirs, leave us depleted, exhausted, deficient, inability to digest, rest, repair or sleep.

To get that energy it needs, often triggering Spleen and hunger responses like consuming sugary foods or other coping mechanisms. Our aim is to support Triple Warmer, calm, soothe and smooth it.

TW imbalances : unable to handle changing temperature, parts too cold, slow metabolism, or heat related inflammation, skin rashes, digestive problems, hot flushes, sweating, respiratory and urinary disturbances, autoimmune issues, fatigue, depletion inability to sleep, relax, anxiety.

Today we practice Qigong movements to help support the Triple Warmer (Fire Element) Meridian.

ASHTANGA YOGA

There is definitely a positive psychological impact as you as you unroll your Yoga mat to prepare for your Yoga practice. The mere act of unrolling your mat creates a designated space, setting by some well deserved time (self care), preparing your body, mind and spirit for mindfulness and self awareness.

And we haven't even started on any movement, stretch or pose yet! This act is a well deserved PAUSE from whatever else is going on in your life.

We need all of the above to help us manage our mental health, maintain positivity and focus, build towards motivation and connection with others.

In today's practice of Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series, we systematically work through one pose that opens the body to enable us to perform and readiness for the next pose, then the next and so forth.
