The 34 Classical Pilates Exercises are the original sequence created by Joseph Pilates. They form the foundation of the Pilates method and were designed as a complete system to strengthen, mobilise and balance the entire body.
Unlike random exercises, the 34 movements are performed in a specific order so that each exercise prepares the body for the next. Together they work to improve:
✨ Core strength and stability
✨ Spinal mobility and flexibility
✨ Postural alignment
✨ Coordination and body awareness
✨ Breath control and mind–body connection
The sequence begins with foundational movements such as The Hundred and Roll Up, gradually progressing into more challenging exercises that require strength, control, and flow.
Joseph Pilates described his method as “Contrology”, emphasising the idea that movement should be performed with precision, concentration and control rather than repetition alone.
The goal of the 34 exercises isn’t just physical fitness — it’s to help the body move more efficiently, with strength, ease and balance in everyday life.
In my Pilates classes I draw inspiration from this classical system, adapting exercises so people of all abilities can experience the benefits of this powerful method. 💫 The benefits I know you feel after every class. Shhhh..Don't share with too many people as they will all want to attend my classes ..
