Kind words from Jac:

"I started with James as soon as gyms reopened in the start of May, having working with him 5 days a week for about 3/4 months.
In that time I had seen a large change in my physical shape, but also my overall strength and fitness, possibly being the strongest I've ever been in my life.

As someone who suffers from back problems, the idea of doing any form of exercise that works it is something I've always tried to avoid, but with the training given, I'm now at a point when I can complete the majority of back exercises without any issues or any pain.

James is extremely friendly and professional, having welcomed me to the gym as soon as I started, and created sessions that fit all my needs and goals. I'd highly recommend him for anyone looking for a personal trainer."

-------

Jac has really embraced training with me, giving his all into every session and he's really reaping the results. He's so much stronger than when we started, he's looking better and he's got a lot more confidence!

My PT offer runs until the end of this week: free consultation and half price 1st session so get in touch if you want to see improvements like Jac!

Quick and easy workout formula to burn fat and build muscle:

Pick 3 or 4 exercises that work all of your main muscle groups between them.

Perform them in a circuit for 3 rounds, then rest for 2-5mins.

Go again for 3 rounds and then rest.

Go again for one more set of 3 rounds so you're completing 9 rounds in total ๐Ÿ’ช

My pick was log clean and press, standing sled rope pull & backwards sled drag and I was blowing by the end! ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

We love deadlifts here at Spartan Strength Camp! It's one of the most functional movements you can do that has a very high carryover into everyday tasks - picking up something heavy and putting it back down with maximal strength and reduced chance of injury.

I prefer to perform deadlifts using a trap/hex bar, whereas Simon prefers to use a barbell, which one you should do depends on your goals:

Barbell Deadlift
- The bar is positioned slightly in front of you, meaning you need to counterbalance the weight as you lift which engages your lower back much more.
- This position also activates your hamstrings to a greater degree.
- Multiple ways to grip the barbell, making it a more technical exercise. However, it also gives a greater scope for progression.
- Used in competitions, so if you ever want to compete in weightlifting, you better get practicing with a barbell!

Trap/Hex Bar Deadlift

- Handles are to your sides rather than in front, meaning that when you lift the weight there is far less activation of your lower back and much greater activation on your quads (great for people who struggle with lower back pain but still want to lift heavy).
- As the weight path is much straighter than with a barbell, it makes it much easier to inject more power into your lifts, potentially allowing you to lift more weight.
- Trap bar deadlifts don't require as much hip mobility due to the handles being slightly higher.

So which one should I do?
They both have their place in training. Essentially if you're looking to target your hamstrings and lower back or looking to compete, work on your barbell deadlifts. If you're looking for a more all-round lower body exercise which doesn't put so much emphasis on your lower back, go for trap/hex bar deadlifts.

If you want to learn more about deadlifts and hip-hinge movements in general, come along to our workshop this Sunday morning:

Coffee and its active ingredient caffeine, have been classified as one of the most effective performance-enhancing supplements.

Caffeine will improve your performance across all aspects, with the most prominent effects being felt as:
1. Increased mental focus ๐Ÿค“
2. Optimized strength ๐Ÿ’ช
3. Elevated strength & cardio endurance ๐Ÿƒ

As caffeine stimulates the brain and the central nervous system, it leads to greater overall output, during your training sessions.
This ingredient can be found in many forms, with the most common being coffee.

Nevertheless, due to its effectiveness, caffeine is included in energy drinks, pre-workout supplements, as well as cognitive boost products.
Ultimately your best bet would be to consume your caffeinated products within 30-40 minutes before a workout. We have developed our own Spartan Strength Pre-workout supplement that will be available to purchase in June! ๐Ÿคฉ

Last but not least, it is important to avoid consuming caffeine in the hours before bedtime, as that may disrupt your sleep cycle ๐Ÿ˜ด
