💜 An Inspiring Journey Into Wheelchair Rugby 💜

We’re proud to share the story of 18-year-old Karleigh West , whose life changed dramatically in 2024 after a viral infection. A passionate martial artist and European-level karate competitor, Karleigh suddenly lost the use of her right leg — a heartbreaking challenge that took away the sport she loved.

But her journey didn’t end there. At a disability sports expo, Karleigh discovered wheelchair rugby and joined the incredible Ospreys Wheelchair Rugby Club . Since then, she’s rebuilt her confidence, strength, and competitive spirit — and found a new community where she truly belongs. 🏉✨

Karleigh recently received her bespoke Elite Pro Attack Rugby Wheelchair, fully funded by the generosity of Caudwell Children Charity. We at RMA Sport were honoured to fit and build her new chair, ensuring she has the tools to chase her sporting dreams again.

Karleigh’s story is a powerful reminder of how adaptive sport changes lives — and we’re proud to be part of her journey. 💪

Tom’s CARTEN100 Challenge 2025 🚴‍♂️

ℹ️- In just under 10 weeks our Sport Technician Tom Dalton will be taking on the 107 mile cycle from Cardiff to Tenby raising money for Velindre Cancer Centre.

Read below to see why Tom is taking on this 107 mile ride.

“On May 10th 2025, I shall be taking part in the CARTEN100 ride from Cardiff to Tenby raising money for Velindre Cancer Centre.
Here’s a little background story on why I will be taking on this challenge for Velindre.

Back in 2007, my mum, Roz, was first diagnosed with breast cancer where she started her treatment at the Velindre Cancer Centre. Mum had bravely fought her battle with cancer for 14 years, sadly passing in March 2021.
Nothing stood in mum’s way whilst she was going through her treatment all these years, travelling abroad on family holidays, spending quality time with friends and family and especially pursuing her passion with horses, accompanying my sister, Grace in competitions that took her all across the world. She was a true warrior, and an inspiration to many others.

I will be completing the CARTEN100 in memory of Mum, as well as raising money for a charity extremely close to my heart, for all the work and support they provide for families going through the battle against these cruel illnesses.

All donations are greatly appreciated and will go directly to Velindre Cancer Centre.”

A huge good luck to Managing Director Simon, on his Velindre Key West Cycling challenge. A total of 625km in just 4 days. Simon has raised an impressive £8,993.95 so far with the help of lots of generous donations. “My first visit to Velindre Hospital was in 2007 when my wife Roz was first diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the next 14 years I accompanied her to countless more visits and however difficult these visits were, I was always astounded by the kindness we were shown and the level of care that Roz received.

It was from these early visits that together with a small group of friends we decided to set up an annual “Pink Day” fundraiser and in the 7 events we have held to date we have raised £97,000 for Velindre Cancer Charity. I have always been inspired by the incredible challenges that so many people attempt whilst raising money for this most worthy charity and I have now decided to take on the Velindre Key West Cycling challenge – I am no cyclist!

In November 2024, I will be departing the UK on the Velindre Key West Cycling challenge which will see us complete 625km in just 4 days. Velindre’s Key West Bike Ride offers fierce mileage taking us from surf capital Cocoa Beach through Jupiter and Miami to finish in the famous Key West, Florida - the southernmost point in the continental USA. This is by no means an easy challenge and will require months of training ahead of the epic distance itself. It is my aim that Velindre Cancer Charity will receive a minimum of £6,000 for my efforts and I will cover my personal costs. From personal experience, this will make a difference to the lives of cancer patients and their families at Velindre who rely on charity-funded supportive care services, resources and roles.
