👂 A really positive moment for hearing awareness 💙

You might have seen the recent BBC news about Peppa Pig introducing a hearing loss storyline, with George Pig being diagnosed with hearing loss and supported by an audiologist.

This is a brilliant step forward.

Normalising hearing loss — especially in children’s TV — helps reduce stigma, starts conversations early, and shows that hearing support is nothing to be afraid of.

At South Wales Hearing Health, we see first-hand how important early awareness, reassurance, and the right support can be — not just for children, but for adults and families too.

Hearing loss doesn’t have to be limiting, frightening, or isolating. With the right care, people can continue to enjoy conversations, confidence, and connection.

If you or someone you care about has concerns about hearing, we’re always happy to help — even if it’s just a chat or some advice.

👂 A reminder about looking after your ears 💙

You may have seen the recent BBC News report highlighting concerns about unqualified and unregulated earwax removal providers and the real risks this can pose to patients.

It’s an important reminder that when it comes to your hearing, who you trust really matters.

At South Wales Hearing Health, your safety and wellbeing always come first.

✨ Why choose us?
✔️ Fully qualified, registered hearing care professionals
✔️ Comprehensive ear health checks before any wax removal
✔️ Safe, clinical-grade equipment used correctly
✔️ Honest advice — we only treat when it’s appropriate

Earwax removal might seem simple, but when done incorrectly it can cause pain, infection, dizziness, or even permanent damage to the ear. Sadly, we are seeing more people affected after using unregulated services or DIY methods.

That’s why we believe ear care should always be carried out by properly trained professionals, not rushed or cut-price providers.

If your ears feel blocked or uncomfortable, we’re always happy to help even if it’s just to give advice.

👂 Tinnitus Awareness Week | 2nd–8th February 👂

Tinnitus is the perception of sound when there is no external source and is often described as ringing, buzzing, hissing, or whistling in the ears.

For some people it’s mild and occasional, but for others it can be persistent and distressing, affecting sleep, concentration, mood, and overall quality of life.

The important thing to know is you’re not alone — and help is available.
Tinnitus is very commonly linked to hearing loss, and a proper hearing assessment is often the first step toward managing it effectively.

At South Wales Hearing Health, we have helped many of our clients with tinnitus support and management options tailored to their needs.

If tinnitus is affecting you or someone you care about, please get in touch — we’re here to help.

❄️ How do hearing aids with fall detection actually work? ❄️

With icy pavements and snow right now, we’ve had a few people ask how fall detection in modern hearing aids works — so here’s a simple explanation 👇

🦻 Smart sensors, working quietly in the background
Our Audibel Aris hearing aids contain tiny motion sensors (similar to those in smartphones and fitness trackers). They continuously monitor movement, speed, and body position — without you noticing them at all.

⚠️ Recognising a real fall
If there’s a sudden movement — such as a fast drop or heavy impact — clever algorithms instantly analyse:
• speed and direction of movement
• impact force
• whether the person stays still afterwards

This helps reduce false alarms and ensures the system only responds when it really matters.

📱 Automatic alerts if help is needed
If a fall is confirmed, the hearing aids connect to a smartphone app and automatically send an alert to up to 3 trusted contacts, including your location.
If you’re OK, the alert can be cancelled.

💙 Why this matters in winter
✔️ Extra reassurance on icy pavements
✔️ Peace of mind for people living alone
✔️ Confidence to stay active and independent

Modern hearing aids don’t just help you hear better — they can help keep you safe, especially during cold weather.

📞 If you’d like to see this technology for yourself, we offer free demonstrations at South Wales Hearing Health
