Please see the information video on what we treat and help us to help you. By attending the wrong service for your condition you clog up the system and delay your treatment.

Call 111 if you are unsure

Happy Monday everyone!

We are at the start of another extremely busy week in MIU.

Please only attend if you have a Minor Injury (see our criteria of the patients we can help) for anything else call 111 if you are unsure.

The amount of patients who attend with conditions that we cannot treat is rising, which means the patients that we can treat have to wait much longer.

Chances are that if you have not injured yourself you are in the wrong place.

Please help us to help you

Did you know?

Our local A&Es at Telford and Shrewsbury display their current waiting times.

Due to the unpredictability of the Minor Injury Units and differing systems, the average 60 minute MIU waiting time is often inaccurate, and maybe minutes or any number of hours.

Did you know?

Our Team in MIU work hard to see everyone in a timely manner, but sometimes due to the volume of patients you may have extended waiting times.

Along with on occasions booking you in, our Team also:

See and examine you to formulate a plan for your injury
Order X-rays if necessary
Interpret the X-ray or make a call for advice
Treat your injury
Make appropriate referrals
Then complete and document your attendance, completing admin and audit tasks !

This has to be done for each patient so you can see that this takes time.

It’s also Friday so remember our X-ray dept closes at 5pm today and will open at 9am on Monday.

Have a great and safe weekend

Did you know?

What happens if you attend with a life threatening condition such as cardiac chest pain, stroke, major bleeding or major trauma?

You will be assessed and may be given medication or life saving treatment to help your condition but we have very limited options in the Minor Injury Unit.

We will then call 999 for an Ambulance so you can be conveyed to a facility to meet the needs of your condition, which is usually an Accident and Emergency department or Major trauma centre.

We would urge and recommend you call 999 for an Ambulance from where you are as this will save considerable time in you getting the right treatment at the right place at the right time.

Did you know?

We can prescribe antibiotics for certain minor injury related conditions. This is only done if there is a clear clinical need and there are no contraindications that may react with your current medications, or conditions.

We work to guidelines on Antimicrobial stewardship as we are extremely mindful that future use of antibiotics may be compromised through over prescribing.

Take a look here

Guidelines on antimicrobial or antibiotic prescribing to support the judicious use of antimicrobials to preserve their future effectiveness.
