Welcome to the 8th Bridgnorth Scout Group page.

This is our public access profile on Facebook. On here we will post events, news, and more. 8th Bridgnorth Scout Group is part of Shropshire Severn and Teme District, which is part of Shropshire Country Scouts. We are a local charitable association aimed at offering young people a variety of experiences, opportunities to grow and develop, outdoor activities and adventures, and a sense of belonging to a worldwide organisation made up of thousands of members.

“The Scout Association is the UK's biggest mixed youth organisation. We change lives by offering 6- to 25-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities. Scouts helps children and young adults reach their full potential. Scouts develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. We help young people to get jobs, save lives and even change the world. Scouts take part in activities as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, expeditions overseas, photography, climbing and zorbing. As a Scout you can learn survival skills, first aid, computer programming, or even how to fly a plane. There’s something for every young person. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world.” (The Scout Association 2015)

At 8th Bridgnorth Scout Group we have sections for children ages between 6-14 years of age. Beavers:
Boys and Girls aged between 6 – 8 Years

Cubs:
Boys and Girls aged between 8 – 10 1/2 Years

Scouts:
Boys and Girls aged between 10 1/2 – 14 Years

We also have opportunities for adults to volunteer as helpers and uniformed leaders. Without volunteers 8th Bridgnorth Scout Group could not run. Volunteers are the backbone of every scout group. On their website the Scout Association says about volunteers:

“This everyday adventure is possible thanks to our adult volunteers, who support Scouts in a wide range of roles from working directly with young people, to helping manage a Group, to being a charity Trustee. We help volunteers get the most out of their experiences at Scouts by providing opportunities for adventure, training, fun and friendship. Our award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults get as much from Scouts as young people. Our approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts, while respecting how much time you can offer. Over 90% of Scout volunteers say that their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal life.” (The Scout Association 2015)

The brilliant LoveBridgnorth have shared our plea, please share their post on your FB pages so our message reaches as many local people as possible 😀

The 8th Bridgnorth Scouts are growing fast, with over 150 young people discovering confidence, resilience and friendships through adventures every week. They cannot be without their volunteers who make it all happen, for our young community to enjoy. ❤️

Unfortunately, they are now reaching out for more helping hands as they are almost at the point where two groups may have to close if more volunteers don’t come forward. This would mean fewer opportunities for local young people to experience the skills and adventures that help shape their futures.

The smallest contribution – a few hours at an event, support with admin, or cheering on fundraising can all help. 🌟 To learn more about the opportunities available, please visit the link in the comments below 👇 or email them to enquire;

🌟 Welcome Back 8th Bridgnorth Scout Group! 🌟

Wow, where did the summer go?! We hope you’ve all had an amazing holiday full of fun and adventure, and are looking forward to getting back to your section meetings.

👉 All sections (except Thursday Beavers) will start back the week commencing Monday 8th September.

👉 Thursday Beavers will return on Thursday 9th October due to leader shortages and holidays.

Unfortunately, leader recruitment continues to be a challenge for our group.

Both Thursday Beavers and Severn Cubs are at risk of closing unless we can find new volunteers to join the team.

🙋 Can you help? Being a leader is easier than you think – it’s simply:

A DBS check ✅

A little training ✅

A commitment to support planning and running fun sessions ✅

You’ll be part of a supportive team, and it’s a really rewarding and enjoyable way to make a difference - please PM us here for more information.

We’re looking forward to an exciting new term – see you all soon!

💙 Thank you for your continued support

What a fantastic summer paddlesport season we have had - all eight sections have had time on the water, starting with Cubs at Group camp on Brown Clee and finishing with Squirrels on the canal at Kinver, with all the others having a splashing time on the River Severn at Bridgnorth. If you took to the water like a duck and would like to spend more time paddling then why not go along to Bridgnorth Canoe Club on a Wednesday evening (visit https://bridgnorthcanoe.co.uk/ or their FB page for more info). Thank you to all those leaders who helped provide these paddlesport activities to our Young People...here are a few photos of the fun 😀🛶
