This week Cynthia has been helping plan the weekly shop for the home using these great visual aids.
This is a great way of ensuring everyone gets involved in running our home and improving memory and recall at the same time.

Today we have enjoyed a sophisticated cheese tasting at Friarn House. With some delicious flavoured cheddars, some greek salad cheese and some creamy stilton to try, 'to brie or not to brie', that was the only question!! 😆😆😆

Today we enjoyed fruit tasting. Taste is an important trigger for memories and stimulation in dementia, we find that it also helps our descriptive vocabulary.
We tried kiwi -'sharp', pineapple -'sweet', melon -'smooth', grapes -'sweet and juicy'.

Yesterday afternoon we all enjoyed celebrating Cedric's birthday 'Friarn House style'. Cake, cards, presents, singing and loads and loads of laughter!
Every birthday is special and every birthday is celebrated with love.

We have been busy here this week decorating pots and planting a variety of seeds and bulbs ready to transplant into our gardens later in the year.
The therapeutic benefits of gardening are amazing and this allows everyone to take part too!

It's been a day of Easter fun here at Friarn House today with Easter Bingo, Easter Bonnets, songs and games, and just the right amount of chocolate - lots!!

Love is in the air at Friarn House, with Yvonne receiving this gorgeous romantic bouquet of roses from her husband Bill this weekend.
After all these years the love between these two is as strong as ever.

Our Trees of Hope are growing in number and reminding us of all the things we're hopeful for in the coming days, weeks and months. They're wonderful and colourful, and we're thankful to have them on dull winter days when we are mainly inside.

We have been busy decorating flower pots and making our own flowers to brighten up the home. We have used loads of different colours and shapes and we think these look smashing!

Today we have been making pots of spring flowers to decorate our rooms and brighten up the whole home. Of course we've also enjoyed a nice cuppa and a chat together whilst we have been doing this too!

Yesterday staff and residents of Friarn House were amongst the first to receive the Coronavirus vaccine.
We would like to thank everyone involved for helping it go so smoothly.
Our Trees of Hope are working already!

During the first lockdown we covered our windows and walls with rainbows 🌈 to show our support for the NHS. Now we have chosen to have our own Trees of Hope 🌳to keep hope alive and positivity for all we look after and all who care. These Trees of Hope will encourage us all to never give up!
Everyone enjoyed making these and the effort, concentration and care was clear to see in all the finished trees. We all chose colours that meant something to us and we discussed what was happening and our own reasons for doing this.
Join us to celebrate HOPE - hope for our loved ones, hope for our keyworkers and hope for everyone.

The celebrations just keep coming at Friarn House this week. Today we are celebrating Tony's birthday with lots of cards, presents and cakes. It's an absolute joy to see how much he is enjoying his special day.

Our Christmas Fair is all set up and ready to go this afternoon at Friarn House. This has become a much loved tradition of ours and the variety of seasonal games and stalls mixed with some old favourites is a joy to see.
