May is Stroke Awareness Month 💜

Stroke can happen to anyone, at any age — and every second counts. Knowing the signs could save a life, maybe even your own.

Remember FAST:
🧠 Face – Is one side drooping?
💪 Arms – Can they raise both arms?
🗣️ Speech – Is it slurred or hard to understand?
⏱️ Time – Call emergency services immediately.

Prevention matters too: staying active, eating well, managing blood pressure, and not smoking can significantly reduce your risk.

Let’s use this month to spread awareness, check in on loved ones, and learn how to act quickly in an emergency.

📱 Mobile Phone Use in the Surgery

Please take a moment to look at our poster when you visit.

We understand phones are part of everyday life, but in a GP surgery it’s especially important to be mindful of others. Many patients may feel unwell, anxious, or value their privacy while they’re here.

✔️ Keep phones on silent or vibrate
✔️ Use them considerately in the waiting area
✔️ Be aware of those around you

❌ No recording (audio, video, or photos)
❌ No speakerphone or loud media
❌ Avoid taking calls during your consultation unless agreed

Respecting these simple guidelines helps us maintain a safe, calm, and confidential environment for everyone.

The aim of the NHS Health Check is to assess your risk of developing stroke,Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes and kidney disease in the next 10 years. 🩺

You are eligible for a free NHS Health Check if:
👉You are between 40-74 years old

👉You are registered to either Cannington Health Centre, Cranleigh Gardens Medical Centre, East Quay Medical Centre, North Petherton, Polden Medical Practice, Quantock, Redgate & Somerset Bridge Medical Centre, or Taunton Road Medical Centre.

👉You have not had an NHS Health Check within the last 5 years

👉You have NOT been diagnosed with or are NOT taking medication for heart disease (Including blood pressure medication),stroke,diabetes,chronic kidney disease, dementia or on a statin.
