BACK PAIN MYTH BUSTING
Here are some 101 myths I hear from clients who have been misinformed about back pain.
- Slipped Discs and trapped nerves!
- Spine misalignment
- Rest
- Sciatica (without full assessment from a professional)
- I must lift with “perfect form”
Back pain is soooo complicated. It can be caused by a multitude of factors.
As professionals it’s so hard to say “I don’t know” but the majority of us don’t have X-ray vision and even if we did, imaging can show disc bulges and changes in the spines of people who are walking around completely pain free and non symptomatic.
In short, we can’t always tell you why you have back pain! And even with MRI our treatment would likely consist of Strength based programmes and mobility.
However what we can do is rule out serious pathology (reason for a very small amount of cases) and assess what may be causing/contributing to your pain. We can then educate, modify the way you move, help you mange symptoms and give you all the tools to prevent reoccurrence!
