Why Discovery is a place where you don’t have to do it alone💚
Words from our Supported Employment Training Manager, Tatjana Bodman

For a long time, I believed there was something wrong with me. I was often told I was “too much” — too direct, too fast, too intense. Years later, I learned I’m neurodivergent (autistic and ADHD), and suddenly so much of my life made sense. I wasn’t failing — I just needed the right environment.

That’s what makes Discovery different.

At Discovery, I don’t have to hide how my brain works. With understanding, flexibility, and open communication, I can thrive. Often, it’s not about big or expensive adjustments — it’s about feeling safe enough to say, “I need clarity,” “My brain is overloaded,” or “Can you help me prioritise?”

When people are supported properly, the benefits go both ways. Discovery gains people who are committed, values-led, and deeply invested in doing things well. And because I’m supported, I can bring my best — consistently.

I see this every day in my work. When people are understood, they don’t just manage — they grow, they lead, and they create real change.

At Discovery, you don’t have to fit a mould. You’re supported to be yourself, do your best work, and truly belong. 🌟

Casey is a Supported Intern on our Bridgwater Health & Social Internship unfortunately when she was on her way home she was sadly knocked off her bike, leaving it beyond repair. Her bike is vital for getting to placement and staying independent in the community.

Thanks to a conversation at a Steering Group Meeting, Peter Harvey (Matron, Bridgwater Community Hospital) connected us with Anthony from Prodigal Bikes, who kindly provided Casey with a new bike at no cost, along with an emergency repair kit. The League of Friends generously covered the cost of the repair kit.💚

This support came at the perfect time, just before Christmas, and gave Casey her independence back. She was over the moon and sends her thanks to everyone involved. 🚲✨

Huge thanks to Peter Harvey, Anthony at Prodigal Bikes, and The League of Friends for making this possible.

We were pleased to welcome MP Ashley Fox to Bridgwater Hospital to see our supported internships in action. These programmes change lives for young people with autism and learning disabilities – but recent funding cuts risk putting that progress at risk. Continued support is vital.

A quote from some of our interns:

🌟“He was very interested in my development and the support I get from my job coach.” – Casey
💚“We had a really good chat about the support I receive from Discovery.” – Harrison
🏆“He was interested in my role and the work Discovery does.” – Matt
☀️“It was interesting to meet the MP for our area – he seemed very friendly.” – Andre

A big thank you to Ashley for taking the time to come and chat with us.

🌟 We are SO proud of our BCP Supported Interns, Andrew and Sophie! 🌟

They have just started their 10‑week rotation with Lush at the Green Hub in Poole, and they’re already shining with their can‑do attitude, teamwork, and enthusiasm to learn. At the Green Hub, old packaging and materials are recycled or transformed to help reduce landfill waste, so not only are Andrew and Sophie gaining valuable skills, they’re also doing their bit for the planet 🌍💚🌱

Here they are with Lush Green Hub Business Manager Alex Unwin and Discovery Job Coach Helen Kellaway. A huge thank you to Alex and her team for offering this exciting opportunity.

✨ Intern Visit to Glastonbury Abbey ✨

Glastonbury Abbey is one of our Street intern placement sites, and on Friday our interns enjoyed a fascinating visit behind the scenes. They were given a guided tour by Luke, who brought the Abbey’s rich history to life.

The group then visited Abbey House, where they met the Curator and had the exciting opportunity to explore potential future museum exhibits. After discussing their favourites, the interns voted for the exhibit they’d most like to see on display from May onwards. The winning choice? A teddy bear featured in an anime film with intriguing links to Glastonbury and the legend of King Arthur 🐻

The visit also included a hands-on workshop with the Medieval Ladies, where the interns mixed their own tooth salve using herbs and spices with traditional pestle and mortars.

A brilliant day of history, creativity, and learning!
