❤️💭War Time Stories at The Hawthornes Care Home💭❤️

Last week, the residents looked at some items from a wartime memory box, provided by Kirklees Library Service. 📚📖

The box included a soldier’s helmet and satchel, a wartime scrapbook, a Vera Lynn songbook, and a bar of household soap. Our residents shared stories and personal experiences from the war, while others, who weren’t born until after WWII, listened with interest. 🪖🧼

June treated us to a beautiful rendition of “Wish Me Luck” by Vera Lynn, and we joined her in singing along. Elaine tried on the soldier’s helmet and mentioned how heavy it was, and we all took a moment to enjoy the scent of a jar, which reminded us of clove and eucalyptus, which we all decided smelled much better than the Redbuoy Household Soap!

It was a reflective afternoon, filled with stories, memories, and connections. This activity was a way for our residents to reflect on the past, evoking memories and creating conversations around shared experiences. 💭🫂

🍻A Pub Lunch with Highfield Care Centre.🍻

Highfield's amazing team took some residents on a special trip to Wetherspoons for lunch! We hopped on the bus together, and the residents absolutely loved the journey. There are so many different places to see and it felt like an adventure. 🚌🗺

Everyone agreed that the highlight of the day was getting to enjoy a larger or soft drink in the pub. The men all decided to enjoy burgers and chips, while the ladies tucked into some classic fish and chips. 🍔🍟🐟

This outing provided the perfect chance for residents to connect with the community and enjoy a refreshing change of scenery. Discovering new places and surroundings offers excellent cognitive stimulation, fosters a sense of independence, and sparks fond memories of similar adventures from their past. 🧠💭

🐉🏮Celebrate Chinese New Year at Clipstone Hall and Lodge Care Home! 🏮🐉

To celebrate Chinese New Year, our residents got creative and crafted some lanterns using paper, glue, glitter, and stickers. They really did look amazing when we hung them up on the ceiling!✨

To make the day extra special, our talented cook made some delicious Chinese food that everyone enjoyed. 🍜🥢

Crafting not only brings out everyone's inner artist, but it also helps improve focus, fine motor skills, and gives residents a chance to create memories and have fun together. 🖍️💖

🐾 Dogs & Dominoes at Highfield Care Centre! 🎲

Friend of the home Barbara, AKA the dog lady, and her 3 adorable pups came into the home for their weekly visit! 🐶 The residents absolutely love spending time with their furry friends, giving them lots of fuss and strokes. It always brightens the week! After the dogs left, we settled in for a game of dominoes, it was a lovely day all round!🌟

Dogs visiting care homes help to reduce stress, boost mood, and even improve social interactions, so thank you Barbara for bringing so much joy to our residents and making their day a little brighter! 💕

🎉 Burns Night Quiz at Sutton Hall and Lodge Care Home🎉

On Burns Night, we invited families to come along and join the residents for a fun-filled evening of quizzing. We had some Burns Night themed questions and an offering of whiskey and nibbles to help everyone along. 🥃🥳

Congratulations to the winners, the Brown Family, who scored an impressive 60 out of 70! 🎉

A big thank you to everyone who joined in – it was such a fantastic night, the residents loved having their families joining in and doing something different, and we were thrilled to see some new families getting involved too! 💙
