Not every health concern begins with medication or a clinical test. Sometimes people simply need the space to talk, reflect, and find the right support. That is where roles like Listening and Guidance Practitioners make a real difference.

At Quarry Bank Medical Centre, we are fortunate to have Ellie, who works with us through the Primary Care Network (PCN) to support patients in exactly this way. Her role focuses on listening to patients, understanding what challenges they may be facing, and helping guide them towards the right support, whether that is within healthcare services or the wider community.

Ellie brings a genuinely positive, calm and uplifting presence to the surgery. She takes time with people, listens without judgement, and helps patients feel heard and supported — something that can make a huge difference when someone is navigating difficult circumstances.

Although Ellie is part of the PCN team, our patients at Quarry Bank can still benefit from her support while she is working within the practice.

If you feel you might benefit from speaking with Ellie, please speak to one of our reception team who will be happy to help arrange this for you.

Primary care is increasingly about supporting people to stay well, not just treating illness. That is where roles like Dietitians in Primary Care Networks make a real difference.

At Quarry Bank Medical Centre, we are fortunate to have Lesley, our PCN Dietitian, who works with us on Tuesdays supporting patients with a wide range of nutritional and lifestyle needs. Whether it’s weight management, diabetes support, digestive issues, or helping patients understand how food can influence their health, Lesley provides practical, evidence-based guidance that helps people make sustainable changes.

Patients often comment on how calm, reassuring and approachable she is. She takes the time to listen, explain things clearly, and work with people to find realistic solutions that fit their lives.

Having specialist dietetic support within primary care is incredibly valuable for local communities. It allows patients to access expert advice earlier, often preventing problems from escalating and helping people take control of their health in a positive and supportive way.

We’re very lucky to have Lesley as part of the wider team supporting our patients at Quarry Bank — she really is fantastic at what she does.

Modern general practice depends on clinicians who can bridge disciplines and respond to patients’ needs quickly and compassionately. At Quarry Bank Medical Centre, Rachel, our Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner, does exactly that.

Rachel brings a unique combination of experience as a dual-registered Nurse and Paramedic, allowing her to assess, treat and support patients across a wide range of clinical situations. She plays an important role in improving access for patients, seeing and managing acute presentations, prescribing when appropriate, and carrying out home visits for those who are housebound.

She also has a particular passion for palliative and end-of-life care, ensuring that patients and their families receive compassionate, respectful support during some of life’s most difficult moments, with a strong focus on dignity, comfort and person-centred care.

While Rachel continues to develop her advanced skills and clinical knowledge, what truly stands out is that she never loses sight of the core values of nursing and paramedic care — compassion, presence and advocacy for patients.

She is a tremendous asset to the practice and a genuine blessing to the team and the community we serve.

Behind every well-run surgery is a front desk team holding everything together. At Quarry Bank Medical Centre, that’s Emma, Donna and Aysha — our reception team who keep the practice moving from the moment the doors open.

They are the welcoming faces patients meet at the desk and the reassuring voices on the phone, helping people navigate appointments, registrations, queries and the many day-to-day questions that come with managing a busy GP practice. Alongside this, they handle a huge amount of essential administration, making sure information reaches the right place and the right people at the right time.

Each of them brings something special to the role. Donna has recently undertaken additional mental health training, strengthening the support we can offer patients who may need a little extra understanding when they contact the surgery. Emma, as our Patient Experience Coordinator, helps ensure patients’ feedback and concerns are heard and acted upon so the practice continues to improve. Aysha is our wonderfully calm and meticulous recall specialist, helping make sure patients receive reminders for important annual health checks and reviews.

Together they form an essential part of the practice team — keeping the front of house running smoothly while supporting patients and clinicians alike every single day.

Continuity in general practice is something special — and at Quarry Bank Medical Centre, Laura is part of that story.

Laura represents the third generation of her family to work at the surgery, which is something we are incredibly proud of. She works as our Medical Secretary and Research Coordinator, supporting both the clinical team and our patients behind the scenes.

As a medical secretary, Laura helps manage referrals, hospital correspondence and important clinical communications, ensuring information moves safely and efficiently between services. Alongside this, she also coordinates our research activity, helping the practice take part in studies that contribute to improving future healthcare.

Her role requires organisation, precision and a deep understanding of how general practice operates — and Laura brings all of that with professionalism and care.

Having three generations connected to the practice says a great deal about the relationship between Quarry Bank Medical Centre and the community we serve, and Laura continues to play an important role in that story.

💐Mother’s Day💐

Motherhood isn’t always defined by biology.
Sometimes it’s defined by care.

It’s the person who shows up.
Who listens.
Who steadies others when life feels uncertain.

Across our community we see that spirit every day —
in parents, carers, grandparents, mentors, and friends
who quietly support the people around them.

Today we recognise everyone who nurtures, protects and lifts others up.
The impact of that kind of care reaches further than most people realise.

From all of us at Quarry Bank Medical Centre,
we wish you a peaceful and meaningful Mother’s Day. 🌷

Every practice has people whose experience quietly keeps things steady behind the scenes. At Quarry Bank Medical Centre, Simmone is very much one of those people.

Simmone is our longest-serving member of staff, having worked at the surgery for many years and becoming a familiar face to both colleagues and patients alike. She works across several important areas of the practice, including supporting the management of prescriptions and maintaining medical records, helping ensure that the clinical team have the information they need to deliver safe and effective care.

These areas involve a large amount of coordination between clinicians, pharmacies and administrative systems, and Simmone plays an important part in helping that process run smoothly alongside the wider team.

Simmone also holds a special place in the story of the surgery — she represents the second generation of her family to work at Quarry Bank, something we are very proud of.

Her experience, commitment and long-standing connection to the practice make her a valued part of the team and an important part of the continuity that patients benefit from every day.

Every strong GP practice has people who form its backbone. At Quarry Bank Medical Centre, one of those people is our Practice Nurse, Jeanette.

Jeanette is our long-term conditions specialist, supporting patients living with asthma, COPD and diabetes with skill, patience and deep clinical knowledge. She’s also our baby vaccination expert, caring for generations of local families and making sure the youngest members of our community get the best possible start.

Having worked in the NHS for many years, and being local to the community she serves, Jeanette brings something truly special to the practice — experience, compassion, and a genuine connection to our patients.

Quite simply, Jeanette is one of the pillars of Quarry Bank Medical Centre, and we’re incredibly fortunate to have her.

General practice runs on the work people don’t always see.

At Quarry Bank Medical Centre, Lydia, our Healthcare Assistant, is one of those people quietly making an enormous difference to patients every single day. Her role spans far more than the basics — from blood tests, ECGs and NHS Health Checks, to supporting joint injection clinics and minor surgery sessions, helping everything run safely and smoothly behind the scenes.

Just as importantly, Lydia spends time with patients who need guidance — supporting conversations about lifestyle changes, helping people access weight-loss support, and making sure patients are directed to the right services when they need extra help.

In short, Lydia is the kind of team member every practice hopes for: skilled, dependable, and genuinely committed to patient care.

We’re very fortunate to have her at Quarry Bank.
