Why Proper Training on Work Equipment is Essential for Managers and Supervisors

Do your managers and supervisors know how to safely manage/ supervise operatives using work equipment in your workplace? If not, your business could be at risk.

Under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) Regulation 9 Paragraph 2, employers must ensure that all persons who supervises or manages anybody using work equipment have received adequate training for purposes of health and safety.

Failing to properly train managers and supervisors in regards to work equipment can have serious consequences. Without proper training, managers may lack the knowledge needed to:

🔵Identify hazards and unsafe conditions related to equipment

⚪️Understand the risks associated with the equipment

🔵Know the control measures needed to mitigate risks

⚪️Recognise when equipment needs maintenance or repairs

🔵Ensure equipment is used safely and properly

Managers are responsible for overseeing operations and workers using equipment. If managers don't fully understand the equipment and its safe usage themselves, they cannot adequately supervise workers or ensure a safe working environment.

Inadequate training can lead to incidents and injuries. It may also result in legal enforcement actions and penalties if an inspection finds breaches of the regulations.

The solution is straightforward - provide comprehensive training to managers and supervisors on work equipment used in your operations. This training should cover:

📕Operating procedures
⛑️Safety precautions
🔧Inspection and maintenance needs
🧑‍⚖️Applicable regulations and standards
🚒Emergency response protocols

Adequate training will equip managers with the knowledge to safely oversee equipment usage and maintain regulatory compliance. It demonstrates your commitment to health and safety, protecting your workers and business.

Don't overlook manager training - make it a priority today!

We can offer the following accredited manager training dedicated for work equipment:

🔵NPORS MEWPS for Supervisors
⚪️IPAF MEWPS for Managers
🔵PASMA Towers For Managers

We also offer the following in-house manager training:

⚪️Plant for Managers
🔵MEWPS for Managers
⚪️Forklift Trucks for Managers
