How do politics and mindfulness live together? I think one of the challenges of being present in the moment is the emotional reactivity that comes with difference. There is difference everywhere; difference of thought, difference of ideas, difference of culture and dare I say, difference of politics. It is human nature to notice difference, in evolutionary terms difference can be a threat. Any emotional response we get to a difference in politics may manifest as a threat. When threatened we get defensive or attack.
Bringing mindfulness into political debate is recognising that another's ideas are not a threat, they are an interesting and meaningful exploration of the other's experience. Be curious and allow yourself to be vulnerable. Be courageous and talk from a place of honesty and respect.

Perhaps a light hearted message to be present in all moments of our life, actively engaging with our intention, moment by moment.

Hereโ€™s a poem called โ€˜An Extra Dayโ€™.

I have just picked up 'Boundless Heart' by Christina Feldman. It has been on my shelves a while. An insight into the Brahma viharas, (sublime states/limitless qualities) or kindness, joy, compassion and equanimity.
Only on page 20 but this is offering a whole new tool box to manage the difficulties in the world.
If you are committed to a mindful existence and seeking wisdom as to how to follow the right path then I would certainly recommend this book.

Do you participate in your life or does life happen around you?
Mindfulness nurtures being present and noticing experience, creating awareness to make more purposeful choices.
When we notice experience we are less likely to get enmeshed in it, and be reactive, more likely to respond from a steady place of intention.
I am going to pay attention today.

Welcome to 2024.
New Beginnings can excite us, we get caught up in the outcome the perceived happiness it will bring.
Mindfulness encourages us to be in the present moment, not to become attached to an idea as this may lead to disappointment (suffering).
Many of you may have identified some resolutions, enjoy them each day, as you notice what you achieve when your attention is focused.
Also notice the thoughts that arise when you judge yourself if you struggle with a resolution. What might it be like to be kind instead? We are only human, tomorrow is another day. ๐Ÿ™

Happy Holy-Days โ€“ may your gift always be the present. ๐ŸŽ

May your holidays and the turnings of the seasons bring new light, great love, wisdom, and understanding into your life, to all you touch, and across this beautiful blue-green globe. ๐ŸŒ

We can get easily distracted by avoidance, it uses precious energy. Turn towards difficulty and keep intention in mind.

Though, in moments of complete confusion, it is helpful to at least know which path you don't want to follow.

Mindfulness practices help us to connect with our body. Our body as a resource for information from the outside world.
This story about the cutting of a tree may provide an embodied response. Being mindful can help us notice how this felt response gets enacted, maybe we are more angry or less tolerant to those around us?
Mindfulness does not tell us to change this response just provides an opportunity to make a different choice.
Another idea I am drawn to notice. The Buddhist tradition encourages us to feel interconnected with all life. This tree is part of us. Hence the overpowering sadness that you might feel.
