This week is a reminder that mental health matters every single day — not just during the difficult moments.

Life can feel overwhelming at times. Stress, anxiety, poor sleep, low mood, overthinking or feeling “stuck” can slowly start to affect how we cope day to day.

But positive change often begins with small, manageable steps.

Your Brain Has a Built-In Filter (The RAS)
Did you know your brain receives millions of pieces of information every second? Yet you only consciously notice a tiny fraction of it.
That’s because of something called the Reticular Activating System (RAS).
The RAS is a network in your brainstem that acts like a filter for your attention. It decides what information gets through to your conscious awareness and what gets ignored.
It works based on what your brain believes is important.
For example:
• Thinking about buying a new car… suddenly you see that car everywhere
• Focusing on problems… your brain notices more problems
• Looking for opportunities… you start seeing more possibilities
Your RAS is constantly scanning your environment for evidence that matches your beliefs and focus.
This is why working with the subconscious mind can be so powerful.

In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy we often talk about the Positive P’s – simple but powerful ways that can support your mental wellbeing and help your brain stay in a healthier, calmer state.

Having something meaningful to do gives the brain direction and motivation. It doesn’t have to be big — small purposeful activities can lift mood and create a sense of achievement.
