What a beautiful baby we scanned in the clinic today!

Your baby's health, growth and development are central to every scan with us, so we perform a growth scan as part of the 4D scan. This involves measurements of your baby's head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length. We also check the position of the placenta, the amount of water around your baby, and take doppler measurements of the blood flow in the umbilical cord.

The 4D element of the scan is being able to watch your baby moving around in 3D. We provide 1 hour appointment times for the 4D scan so we can spend time looking at baby in detail, getting some 3D pictures and 4D video clips. This baby was hiding behind their arms to begin with, so sometimes it can take a bit of time to get that perfect view!

What to expect from your Early Pregnancy Scan:

This baby is 7 weeks 6 days gestation. You can see the heart beating and the limbs starting to form. The head and body are clearly defined. The baby measures 15mm head to bottom.

Every Early Pregnancy Scan checks the number of babies, that the pregnancy is in the correct place, as well as the health of your uterus and ovaries.

You will receive black and white prints and any video clips, like this one, by email.

The Anomaly Scan is also known as the anatomy or 20 week scan.

This scan checks your baby's anatomy in detail, takes growth measurements, checks the amount of water around baby, checks the position of your placenta. You can also find out the gender of your baby if you wish.

As with every scan with us, you will receive a scan report and black and white prints, plus any video clips we capture will be securely emailed to you.

What do you see during your scan at 6 weeks gestation?

This image was taken during an Early Pregnancy Scan. It shows the gestation sac located correctly within the uterus. You can see the circular shaped yolk sac within the gestation sac. Next to this you can see the baby developing, called a fetal pole at this stage. We could see the flickering of the heartbeat and measured baby at 4.7mm, which equates to 6 weeks 0 days.

The Early Pregnancy Scan also checks the health of the uterus and ovaries.
