If I get dementia, I’d like my family to hang this wish list up on the wall where I live. I want them to remember these things.

Every time you enter the room announce yourself. “Hi..- it’s ………...”
NEVER ask- Do you know who I am??? That causes anxiety.

1. If I get dementia, I want my friends and family to embrace my reality.
2. If I think my spouse is still alive, or if I think we’re visiting my parents for dinner, let me believe those things. I’ll be much happier for it.
3. If I get dementia, don’t argue with me about what is true for me versus what is true for you.
4. If I get dementia, and I am not sure who you are, do not take it personally. My timeline is confusing to me.
5. If I get dementia, and can no longer use utensils, do not start feeding me. Instead, switch me to a finger-food diet, and see if I can still feed myself.
6. If I get dementia, and I am sad or anxious, hold my hand and listen. Do not tell me that my feelings are unfounded.
7. If I get dementia, I don’t want to be treated like a child. Talk to me like the adult that I am.
8. If I get dementia, I still want to enjoy the things that I’ve always enjoyed. Help me find a way to exercise, read, and visit with friends.
9. If I get dementia, ask me to tell you a story from my past.
10. If I get dementia, and I become agitated, take the time to figure out what is bothering me.
11. If I get dementia, treat me the way that you would want to be treated.
12. If I get dementia, make sure that there are plenty of snacks for me in the house. Even now if I don’t eat I get angry, and if I have dementia, I may have trouble explaining what I need.
13. If I get dementia, don’t talk about me as if I’m not in the room.
14. If I get dementia, don’t feel guilty if you cannot care for me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s not your fault, and you’ve done your best. Find someone who can help you, or choose a great new place for me to live.
15. If I get dementia, and I live in a dementia care community, please visit me often.
16. If I get dementia, don’t act frustrated if I mix up names, events, or places. Take a deep breath. It’s not my fault.
17. If I get dementia, make sure I always have my favourite music playing within earshot.
18. If I get dementia, and I like to pick up items and carry them around, help me return those items to their original place.
19. If I get dementia, don’t exclude me from parties and family gatherings.
20. If I get dementia, know that I still like receiving hugs or handshakes.
21. If I get dementia, remember that I am still the person you know and love.”

in honour of someone you know or knew who has dementia. In honour of all those I know and love and lost who are fighting Dementia/Alzheimer’s.
Someone once said if you take care of someone with dementia you lose them more and more everyday. When they get the diagnosis, when they go through different stages, when they need treatment and when they pass away.
This is called "The Long Goodbye ". As the brain slowly dies, they change physically and eventually forget who their loved ones are. They could end up lying in bed, not moving and not eating or drinking.
There will be people who will scroll past this post because Dementia has not touched them. They may not know what it's like to have a loved one who has battled or is still battling dementia and I sincerely hope that you do not ever find out for yourselves.

To raise awareness of this cruel disease, I would like my friends to put this on their page today.

Hold your finger on the post to copy and paste to your timeline.

A special thank you to anyone willing to put this on their timeline for Dementia Awareness Week.

Update on phone issues.
I have been unable to make or receive calls on my work, or indeed my personal mobile for the last couple of weeks. It appears to be a major fault with our local mast which carries both O2 and Tesco Mobile (which are the two that I use).
As there appears to be no effort being made to repair the mast or resolve the situation, I have moved both accounts to Vodaphone and they should change over later today.
Apologies to anyone still awaiting a call back, I will get back to you soon.

Here are some true and interesting facts about feet:
1. A quarter of your bones are in your feet – Each foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, and over 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Together, your two feet contain 52 bones, about 25% of all the bones in your body.
2. Feet can sweat a lot – Each foot has about 250,000 sweat glands, capable of producing half a pint of sweat per day.
3. No two feet are exactly the same – Even on your own body, one foot is usually slightly larger than the other.
4. Feet change size with age – Arches can flatten over time, meaning many people’s shoe size increases as they get older.
5. The big toe carries the most weight – It’s crucial for balance and forward movement when walking or running.
6. Footprints are unique – Like fingerprints, every person has a unique footprint pattern.
7. They’re full of nerve endings – Feet are one of the most sensitive parts of the body, with around 200,000 nerve endings, which is why they can be ticklish.
8. Your feet affect your whole body – Poor foot alignment or arch problems can cause pain in the knees, hips, and even back.
9. Feet expand during the day – They tend to swell after long periods of standing or walking, which is why shoe shopping is often best done in the afternoon.
10. Toenails grow slower than fingernails – Toenails grow about 1.5 millimetres per month, while fingernails grow about twice as fast.

Good morning all. It's rare that I do a post like this directly supporting a charity, but this is an exception.
Some of you will be aware that 13 years ago, I started a Facebook group for people like me who deal with feet.
That group now has over 5,000 members across the UK and beyond, and a few years ago myself and my good friend Sarah Greenaway forged links with what is now our nominated Charity - Forgotten Feet - Helping Homeless Feet. https://www.forgottenfeet.org/
Every year we have a "One Day, One Patient, One Fee" where, as many of us as possible donate the fee for one treatment to the charity, but also tell the patient what we're doing to help raise awareness.
I will be donating the fee from one of my patients today but, if any of my Facebook friends would like to donate too, here's the link.

Happy New Year everyone.
I'm back working from Tuesday 7th January and, although January is fairly booked up, I do have a few appointments left in Freshwater, Yarmouth, Brighstone and surrounding areas.
It's a frosty morning so, if you're going out, go carefully, but have a good day.
