This is Abigail before kidney disease. Abigail lived with her mother and five siblings. Abandoned by her father, she still had her mother working hard to support her family. An accident meant Abigail had to go to hospital and whilst there it was discovered that she had problems with her kidneys. Unfortunately this has progressed to end stage kidney failure over the last couple of years.
Her mother sold every possession, even their only source of income, her business, to pay for treatment for Abigail. They lived in one room with no toilet or running water in the building and shared a double bed. Her younger brothers were sent to live with their aunt as finances were so low. Devastatingly they were evicted from that home, as they couldn't afford the rent due to spending all money on Abigail's treatment, and had to sleep in the church. Porridge and Pens stepped in and helped to get them back on their feet but with kidney treatment not covered under any health service in Ghana and only 104 Necrologists in the country, it still costs six weeks earnings for her mother to find for every single dialysis session. I can't imagine the desperation she feels every day knowing that if she doesn't find the money that week, her daughter will not be here the next.
Ideally Abigail should have three sessions a week to keep her organs healthy but she has been having the bear minimum of two for a year. All she wants is to get back to being healthy so she can return to her business of decorating for functions and help support the family.
£6700 will pay for two dialysis sessions a week for a year. Please can you spare anything towards our goal? https://gofund.me/4738d711
I have met this young lady on two trips to Ghana and I speak to her most days through messages or video chats. She is a bright, loving, kind young lady and she doesn't deserve to die just because she can't afford treatment to live.
