I've seen lots of early feeding difficulties resolve after the nervous system has settled. Often problems latching come after a stressful birth so it can be helpful to find something to support baby in settling into their body before heading into a tie release. Often just upping the skin to skin time for regulation, encouraging reflexes by having tummy crawling time up the chest and a little squidgy foot rub can do the trick ♥

As doulas we are present through all phases of life and sometimes that includes the end as well as the beginning. It's always ok to find someone to talk to, however long it has been. There are some links in the post below.

Written by : 'When I was pregnant with my daughter her cells migrated into my bloodstream and then circled back into hers. For 41 weeks our cells merged and crossed and after she was born these cells stayed in my body, leaving a permanent imprint in my tissues, bones, brain, and skin, and will stay there for decades. And every child I have after will leave a similar imprint on my body. Even if a pregnancy doesn't go to full term or you have an abortion, these cells still migrate into your bloodstream. Research has shown that if a mother's heart is injured, fetal cells will rush to the site of the injury and change into different types of cells that specialize in mending the heart! Studies have also shown cells from a fetus in a mothers brain 18 years after she gave birth!⠀
Mothers have always intuitively felt their child even when they are not there, now there is scientific proof that we carry them for years and years even after we have birthed them. I know my body held and made my daughter, but she too made me. Leaving pieces of herself to forever flow through my body and heal me in ways I am only still trying to understand. Forever grateful for her not only being my teacher but also my healer.

Huge thanks to everyone who joined the this morning. What a brilliant chat! There is so much goodwill & passion in our sector & great to hear of some significant funding achievements too, which are a game-changer in growing a service.

We went global too with representation from Zimbabwe on what's going on in the sector on the ground.

There are so many opportunities to learn when we all come together.

Our online meet-ups are free & very friendly & accessible, so look out for info on the next one!

‘Normal’ has much variation when it comes to babies 😊

They are two healthy babies, three months old, both exclusively breastfeeding and, believe me, neither the one on the left is obese, nor the one on the right is undernourished. They are variations of normality! Most likely, when they start crawling, the one on the left will slim down a little and the one on the right will gain muscle mass.
Do not compare your child to other children.
Each of us is different.

There's been so much great discussion and support offered this week but this nicely sums it up for me :)

I am deeply passionate about people having support and as a medium for social change and activism!

Birth is the place that the miraculous meets the everyday. Its from this place of vast love that we can really make a difference. A difference to each birthing person and the baby... Literally our future!

So more doulas from minoritised and marginalised groups means more support for more families.

And its means the stories and from people with different life experiences are shared, normalised and celebrated.

I'd just been writing about the challenges of being a new parent through lockdown when I read this - Amy Brown always speaks in such a down-to-earth and supportive way about the realities of parenting.
