I stepped away today from officiating and sharing stories at my 50th Celebration of Life Service

A milestone, and one I feel proud and honoured to have reached.

There is always life around us, and always will be.

Stay well, all

I just told a love story.

About a man who was found under the Christmas Tree at Gatwick airport by a brave, brilliant lady.

They flew off together, then made histories together.

This time of year is a tough one to gather for these reasons, but I was thanked for telling the story so beautifully.

Before I left, as I always do, I spent a few precious minutes with Nan and Pete, and made sure all was well where they are.

Stay well, all

My walk from the office today, after an emotional but uplifting service for a lady who taught countless people to dance, then befriended a white horse at the end of her garden, as Alzheimer's took away so much of what she'd known.

She arrived today in a carriage, drawn by two white horses.

My role as a story-teller is a true privilege.

A service today for a family I have now supported twice, as the dear wife of the smashing man I celebrated in May passed away recently.

What struck me as I arrived was the first image.

We can feel cold, still and frozen in our grief and thoughts for the future, but not far away, always, is a sunny moment and new life and scenery.

Stay well, all

There are days when my place of work is truly beautiful.

A service today, to properly celebrate the life of an irrepressible character, who was loved hugely by many people.

The Funeral Director said it was the most laughter she had heard at a service which, considering the person we were honouring, is about as good as praise could get.

A few minutes taken outside afterwards, to breathe deep, take these photos and be reminded that life goes on, always.

Stay well, all

An early service this morning, for a Rock n Roll loving, ball of musical energy.

The family and friends said how soothed they felt by the service and by the way I delivered it

Job satisfaction is a strange thing, especially in this role, but I had a sit and a chat with Pete and Nan afterwards, as I will always do, and will reflect on how this job helps strangers a little later.

Stay well, all

Grey, funeral-like weather today, but this place has history, living everywhere.

A service to 6 people, with more overseas on the webcast than in attendance, so I spoke to them directly too, through the lens, after we had all turned and waved to them.

Before leaving, a message came from New Zealand saying they felt part of it, like they were there and it had been really powerful.

Small things, but important things.

Stay well, all

Whenever I perform a Celebration of Life Service here, I pop along to sit next to Nan and Uncle Pete's roses.

Years ago, we chose a spot next to the bench, so we could sit and chat if we wanted or needed to.

I could never know I would be seeing them so regularly then, but the chance to remind yourself of people's special qualities keeps them alive in your heart and mind.

And they never truly leave.

Stay well, all

Sat on my preferred bench, watching koi carp drift and swish, after helping a family by delivering a Celebration of Life service today.

A quick edit before the service, to include a special story from a young person who was attending her first funeral, and wanted to know when the "box" would arrive.

Thinking on your feet and moving quickly is essential in this job, even when your boots may feel heavy.

But there's always a lamp-post from Narnia to find or a story to ponder, to make your steps lighter.

Stay well, All

So many cars, because today's life was one to celebrate.

A we**am was running, providing a link to Australia and New Zealand, so I spoke to its lens directly.

People smiled, nodded with happy recognition, then preformed a round of applause (at my suggestion, because I am naughty) to someone who had been hugely courageous to speak some heartfelt words.

And outside?

The trees breathed out new oxygen, while new plants prepared to grow into colourful celebration.

This role is a special one.

Stay well, all

A Celebration of Life service today at Woodvale, for a man whose life was truly colourful, positive and cheery.

I watched the rain come down yesterday and smiled, because I knew that when the sun came out today, the plants would put on a show, refreshed and happy again.

This little pond is one I sit by regularly, just up the road, and ponder the positive impact of a good story, well told.

Gentle water flowing, birdsong and nature's bustle all around me, but none of it interrupting, just adding to the calm.

Stay well, all

I led a service this morning for a lady who wove memories and colour together for people around the world, created blankets, made rugs on a loom for far-away floors and brought gardens to life with fruit.

She traveled thousand of miles in a long life.

After delivering the service, I visited two people, whose lives covered less miles, but were colourful, in their own special ways, and dearly loved too.

A few minutes sat on the bench next to them, with a robin for company, to reset.

Life goes on, and we are lucky to be alive to remember and cherish those that have left us.

Stay well, all
