Yoga to Reconnect, Patcham Memorial Hall this Thursday 26th January at 6p.m.

A somatic based practice, where you will be invited to explore bodily sensations as you move through shapes. Focussing on reconnecting with or building on your felt sense the practice supports being in the present moment and offers choice on how you take part. During the session you will be invited to explore yoga forms and movements at your own pace. The emphasis is not on the appearance of the yoga forms, or “doing it right,” but rather tuning into the felt-sensations of your body, and making choices about how you wish to move.
Guided by trauma informed research this practice seeks to create a space to support you in reconnecting with your somatic self.

Open to all. No previous yoga experience needed.

Booking required and spaces are limited to 6.

More information can be found at www.somaticsensebrighton.com or to book a space email rebecca@somaticsensebrighton.com

Yoga to Reconnect is a somatic based practice, where you will be invited to explore bodily sensations as you move through shapes. Focussing on reconnecting with or building on your felt sense (interoception) the practice supports being in the present moment and offers choice on how you take part. During the session you will be invited to explore yoga forms and movements at your own pace. The emphasis is not on the appearance of the yoga forms, or “doing it right,” but rather tuning into the felt-sensations of your body, and making choices about how you choose to move.

Increasingly, movement based practices are evidenced as beneficial in the recovery from mental distress. In particular somatic practices that focus awareness on body sensation have been shown to improve interoceptive awareness, increase awareness of emotional states and an increased ability to regulate emotional distress (Bornemann et al., 2015, p.11, Farb et al., 2015). Improved interoceptive awareness through yoga practices is evidenced as playing an important role in the bodies recovery from trauma responses (Caplan et al., 2013, Van der Kolk et al., 2014, West et al., 2017). Despite this many traditional approaches in the treatment of trauma are disembodied (Pert, 1999, Emerson, 2015).

Guided by trauma informed research Yoga to Reconnect seeks to create a space to support you in reconnecting with your somatic self.

Open to all.
No previous yoga experience necessary, wheelchair accessible.

Booking required and spaces are limited to 8.
First session free.
