Table Manners Limited

Table Manners Limited Helping Business Owners and Managers to keep their business safe. We specialize in helping Motor Trade owners and their managers to keep their business safe.

"As an employer, you must use someone competent to help you meet your health and safety duties.....whoever you choose should have the skills, knowledge and experience to manage health and safety" Quote from the HSE

With this quote from the HSE in mind, Tablemanners was formed in 2013 by father and son team Peter and Henry Stevens. Peter Stevens spent his entire 40 year career in the Motor Industry, mostly as a Vauxhall Dealer in Sussex. His wealth of experience enables him to have considerable empathy and understanding of the many unique 'hazards' faced by those in the Motor Industry. His approach to Health & Fire Safety is as he expected it when in business. Henry Stevens who grew up in this Motor Trade environment, went to Hertfordshire University and gained his Bsc Honours in Business. He then spent 5 years developing his interpersonal skills in field sales with an international company. "These experiences have given me the confidence to join my father and assist in looking after his clients. I thoroughly enjoy building new and lasting relationships with people in the Motor Industry." With some businesses we do it ALL....paperwork/processes/risk assessments/employee inductions etc. For others we train, audit or advise. Whatever the arrangement the relationship is personal, bespoke Motor Trade by experience and quite different to the usual Health & Fire Safety company practice. We are very thorough and we work in a hands-on manner and not a prescriptive one! We don't point you to a complicated website and we don't ask you to fill out lots of forms. Hopefully we leave you to sell Cars/Hours/Parts etc. See our website for the Services we offer and topics we cover.

🏋️‍♀️ Gyms can be busy places, with different types of equipment, group workout classes and individuals moving around.
🏋️‍♀️ These factors can all contribute to risks in the gym, which is why it’s important for owners or managers to complete a gym risk assessment and maintain good health and safety in the gym.
🏋️‍♀️ Regularly taking part in exercise is great for physical fitness and mental wellbeing.

There are some essential practices and guidelines that gyms and individuals can implement to maintain optimal health and safety in the gym. Making sure that hazards in the gym are minimised means people can work out safely – and gives staff peace of mind when on the gym floor.
• Risks In The Gym
As gyms are workplaces as well as leisure and hospitality facilities, accidents can happen to both staff and members of the public.

Accidents that can occur in the gym include:
• Slip, Trips And Falls
Probably some of the most common accidents in any workplace, slips, trips and falls can happen in the gym due to spilled water, excess sweat, or the gym floor being cleaned without adequate signage. There may also be uneven floors or equipment creating obstacles that can cause people to trip and fall.
• Falling Objects
Certain pieces of equipment, like dumbbells or ab mats may be stored at a height. If these objects fall, they could cause mild to moderate injuries to gym goers and staff alike. An accident investigation book will need to be available to record any cases of clients or staff being hit by falling objects.
• Equipment-Related Injuries
Falling off treadmills, dropping weights or trapping fingers are all equipment-related risks in the gym. If equipment is not used properly and with adequate care, accidents can happen. These types of accidents can be reduced if correct training is provided to staff and customers are instructed on how to use equipment properly.
• Overexertion
It’s important that gym goers take care not to lift weights that are too heavy and to only perform movements with the correct technique. Overexertion can result in a few days of muscle pain or it can have more serious consequences like sprains or even breaks.
• Lack Of Supervision
Whilst users of the gym should take personal responsibility, it is also important that staff and trainers ensure people are using equipment safely and are competent at a range of exercises. This applies to those using the open gym and people in group fitness classes.
With good health and safety measures, and routine equipment maintenance, accidents in the gym can be reduced significantly. Reporting faulty equipment or obvious hazards can also help in creating a safe gym environment for everyone.

Blue Monday is the third Monday of January and in 2025 it falls on Monday 20th January. It’s been dubbed the most depressing day of the year due to its distance away from Christmas, the fact that most people won't have received their first pay cheque of the year yet, and that most people have cast aside their New Year's Resolutions.

Music fans of course know Blue Monday to be the title of New Order's famous 1983 track, but in recent years it's been associated with something else entirely.

It might surprise you to know that the origins of the term came from travel firm looking to promote their winter holiday deals. Sky Travel tasked psychologist Cliff Arnall to come up with a formula for the bluest day of the year in 2004 so they could argue it was the best day to book a summer holiday.

So there you have it. Blue Monday is a totally made up day of the year which was only invented as a way of marketing holiday deals.

So you needn't feel too blue after all...
If you have the ‘blues’ there is help out there.

‼️Think Twice about your Health & Fire Safety.

❗️ASSUMPTIONS

❗️All our safety measures are already in place?
As a business owner do you say this?
We can assume safety is covered and don’t act; safety requires constant vigilance.
Don’t wait for accidents to happen, effectuate change to improve your Health & Fire Safety.

❗️If safety is important, it will happen automatically.
Safety doesn’t magically appear. Like education or possessions, you must actively pursue it.
Safety measures won’t come to you; you must find them.
We could be that business to build up your Health & Fire Safety culture.

❗️No one notices your safety efforts.
People do notice, even if it seems otherwise. Your dedication to safety matters.
Always give your best to safety, even when no one seems to be watching.

❗️I’ll improve safety when the time is right.
Waiting for the right time is a mistake. Safety requires continuous action.
Don’t delay; start making safety improvements now. It’s about reclaiming the time for a safer future.

❗️I don’t care what others think about safety.
What others think matters because safety decisions are often made in your absence.
We can Influence how others perceive safety. We can shape your conception and create a safer environment by reducing risk, related to human health.
