A big thank you to Guy Garrett and the amazing team at Gather for hosting us last night. Claire and I were grateful for the opportunity to talk about something we’re both deeply passionate about — End of Life Care.
The group’s reception was warm, friendly, and deeply engaged, and we’re excited to be returning to The Barn on 12th June for a dedicated session exploring deeper discussions and the options available for those planning their End of Life Care.

Hi All
My colleague Claire Ferrari and I are giving a presentation on Thursday evening. Just putting it out there if you are interested in Advance Decisions to Refuse treatment- ADRT OR Advance Care Planning- making sure you wishes and preferences are understood, legally documented and a gentle conversation about End of life Care. You can join us on Thursday or at another event we have coming up in June. This is going to be held at the Barn Westdene.
Gather – Thursday 23rd April 2026

This month at Gather, we’ll be exploring a topic that many of us don’t often talk about—but one that touches us all: end of life care.

We’re really grateful to be joined by Claire and Sharon, two highly experienced Adult Social Care Consultants, who will be sharing insights from their work as End of Life Doulas.

Drawing on decades of experience across the NHS, charities, private sector and social services, they’ll help us gently explore an important question:
What really matters to people as they come to the end of life—and what can that teach us about how we live now?

This won’t be heavy or clinical. It will be thoughtful, human, and grounded in real experience—offering perspective, clarity, and maybe even a sense of peace about something many of us avoid.

As always, Gather is a safe, welcoming space—come as you are, bring your curiosity, and be part of the conversation.

We’d love to see you there.

Do you know what services an End of Life Doula offers ??

Reaching out to an end of life doula as early as possible can make a big difference.

The sooner a doula is involved, the more time there is to build a trusting relationship, understand what truly matters to the person, and ensure their priorities guide the care around them. Early contact also helps avoid rushed decisions or last-minute pressure, allowing support to unfold calmly and in a way that feels right.

Doulas can offer emotional support, help explore wishes and preferences, assist with advance planning, and be a steady presence for both the person and those important to them. They can also help prepare for difficult conversations, provide information in an accessible way, and advocate for the person’s needs within the wider care team. For families, end of life doulas can offer reassurance, practical guidance and support before, during the dying process, and after the person has died.

If you’d like to find out more or be connected with a doula, you can get in touch with us through the contact form on our website

National Grief Awareness Week Starts Tomorrow.
People working in hospices, care homes, hospitals and other care settings often experience the deaths of patients and residents where they work, but this doesn’t mean each death is easier to cope with.
Hospice UK’s Compassionate Employers programme is running workshops to help care professionals manage recurring and often overlooked experiences of grief through their work.
The next session will run on 14 Jan 2026. If you're a healthcare professional and interested know more, take a look at the information on the link below:

"Just had a really insightful Teams call about submitting an agenda item for RCN Congress! Has anyone submitted one before and had it debated? I’d love any advice on how to make a strong, successful submission — all tips welcome!"

If you have submitted one before, especially if it was selected for debate- I'd really appreciate any advice you can share.
What made your submission strong or successful?

Yesterday was a much-needed self-care day. Being at the Amex for Brighton & Hove Albion’s match was a great reminder of the power of teamwork.

After a tough first half, a clear team talk and a reshuffle of responsibilities led to a 2–1 comeback — a perfect example of how the right adjustments can turn things around.

A brilliant mix of energy, reflection, and time with my husband… and a reminder that looking after yourself helps you bring your best to others.
