Whether you are in the U.K or travelling to other countries, take care when in the sun. Use a suncream that is SPF of 30 or above and has 4-5 star UVA protection.

Wear a sunhat and sunglasses. Ensure you stay hydrated.

The number of travel acquired malaria cases in the U.K has risen to its highest number in 20 years.
If you are travelling, ensure you seek travel health advice to ascertain if you are at risk of malaria.

Remember ABCD
- A- Awareness of risk of malaria in the country you are travelling to.
-B- Bite protection measures - these will protect you from malaria and other mosquito bourne diseases
-C- Chemoprophylaxis - If you have been advised to take antimalarial tablets then take them as advised. Ensure you complete the course.
-D- Diagnosis - If you feel unwell while you are travelling (fever, headache, vomiting) then ensure you access healthcare promptly. For up to a year after you return, if you develop a fever/flu like symptoms then seek medical advice and ensure to make them aware that you have travelled to a malarial area.

Climate change is a real and undeniable threat to our societies. All travellers need to consider climate change, not only how they can try to make their travels as sustainable as possible but also how climate change is affecting their destinations.

- Climate change is amplifying mosquito borne diseases such as dengue and yellow fever.

- As temperature raise and rainfall patterns change, conditions for the spread of cholera becomes more favorable resulting in higher risks of outbreaks.

Ensure that before you travel, you obtain travel health advice from a healthcare professional even if you are travelling to a destination that you have been to before.

- Remember that contaminated water can transmit a number of different infectious diseases such as Hepatitis A, Cholera and Travellers diarrhea.

- Before you travel seek advice on the risk of contaminated water at your location.

- In countries with poor sanitation, it is not advisable to drink the tap water or use it to clean your teeth.
