It’s Movement Monday!

This week we’re focusing on the fingers - learning about the phalanges, and how they move through flexion, extension, abduction and adduction.

Ever wondered why your posture feels off, even when you try to “stand tall”? 🧍‍♀️

Here are 3 common posture adaptations I see:
➡️ A pelvis that’s shifted forward - this can tighten and put strain on the lower back and hips
➡️ One hip hiked higher and a lower shoulder - throwing balance and loading off through the whole body
➡️ A forward head and sunken ribcage - putting tension in the neck/shoulders and restricting breathing

These subtle shifts don’t just change how you look - they affect how you move, breathe and feel.

This client came to me for lower back pain, but their foot plate readings revealed something interesting.

At the start, more of the left foot was on the floor, but 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱, and the pelvis was shifted to the right (the middle white dot on the first pictures). This was a leftover effect from a past left-knee injury — the body was avoiding it.

After just one session, the pelvis is more centred and the left foot is carrying more weight (see picture 4).

Small shifts, big difference. Every body tells a story — sometimes we just need to to start listening and give it what it needs.

✨ Movement Monday: The Hip Joint ✨

Your hips are designed to move - in all directions!
Flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, internal and external rotation… when even one of these movements gets lost, your body has to find workarounds. That’s when you might start to notice stiffness, hip pain, or even issues in your knees, lower back, or feet.

Your hips are a key player in how your whole body moves and feels, so understanding how they work is the first step to restoring healthy movement.

I'm so grateful to everyone who attended Finding Your Feet on Saturday, they were such a brilliant bunch, inquisitive and enthusiastic! It was lovely to see them connect with their bodies and realise how important the feet are.

And now to receive such wonderful feedback is the icing on the cake. I love what I do, but to know how much it resonates with others really does make it even more rewarding!

🍑 Movement Monday: The Glutes!
Your glutes aren’t just one muscle, they’re a team of three working together to support your hips, pelvis, and lower back.

When your hips move well, your glutes can activate properly - lengthening, shortening, and stabilising with every step, squat, and stride.
But when movement at the hip joint is limited, those muscles can switch off, leaving other areas (like your lower back or hamstrings) to pick up the slack.

✨️ Behind the Scenes of a Workshop ✨️

I’m often asked why I don’t run workshops more often — and the truth is, there’s a lot more that goes into them than just those two hours on the day!

First comes the promo — spreading the word and getting people excited to join. Then there’s processing sign-ups. I like to collect a client form from each attendee so I know anything important ahead of time, and I always send out an info email to make sure everyone knows exactly what to expect.

Next, it’s time to review the content and gather all my tools and equipment - everything from clipboards and pens to wedges and wipe mats. On the day, all of that needs to be packed up, transported to the venue, and set up ready to go.

After the workshop, it’s time to do it all in reverse: pack everything up, bring it home, clean it, and get it ready for my one-to-one sessions or the next event.

And of course, I always send out a thank-you email with a recap of what we covered and links to any tools people might want to explore at home.

So, while the workshop itself might only last two hours, there are many more hours of preparation and follow-up behind the scenes. But honestly? I love it. Teaching different groups and sharing ways to move more freely and live without pain is always worth it. 💛
