Salma Darling, M.A. is a UK trained Dance Movement Psychotherapist (DMP) registered with the Association of Dance Movement Psychotherapy UK (ADMP), a movement and meditation teacher, performance director and ecological artist. Her unique approach has evolved out of over 20 years investigation into embodiment and awakening, particularly in wild nature. She offers workshops, mindfulness classes, body-oriented psychotherapy, consultation and ecological performances. Alongside practice as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist she specializes in movement in natural environments and has directed site responsive improvisational performance, cross art-form collaborations including UK Arts Council funded films and movement workshops in nature. With an MA in Art and the Environment from University College Falmouth, UK, she has exhibited, directed, performed and lectured on embodiment in the natural world with organizations such as RANE at University of Falmouth, Newcastle University, Plymouth University, De La Warr Pavillion, Exeter Phoenix, CEDA and CCANW Exeter, UK
Salma has trained in Buddhist meditation at monasteries, retreat centres and ashrams in Europe, USA and India. She completed a three-year Dharma Facilitators Programme with Christopher Titmuss, studied Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with Jon Kabat Zinn, Bob Stahl and Christina Feldman, and taught weekly mindfulness meditation classes in the community and to mental health service users and staff alongside her clinical practice as a dance movement psychotherapist since 2002. She currently offers one to one dance movement psychotherapy and somatic enquiry sessions, and a workshop program that dances between silent meditation and free expression in the wild. Her facilitation encompasses eastern spiritual wisdom with western psychotherapeutic models.
