Breathe less, sounds so simple doesn’t it?
That’s the key.

It ultimately means you’re breathing more slowly, calmly and a lot less per minute.

This is why people who spend time in contemplative states, or getting lost in something they love will slow their breathing right down, they’re so calm and centred they’re pretty much in that meditative state without even trying!

Start slowly and gradually increase your resistance to the build up of carbon dioxide in your lungs - the longer you can do this the more oxygen will be released from the red blood cells.

Always remember good tongue posture - your tongue should be suctioned up against the roof of the mouth.

If you have any heart conditions, other illnesses you’re unsure about and if you’re pregnant always seek advice from your medical professional first before trying breath holds.

Please get in touch for support with Functional Breathing in person and online.

I offer one-to-one and group sessions, presentations, and workshops in the workplace, community groups and clubs.

To get the most from mouth taping, a few practical steps can make the experience safer and more effective:

🌱 Choose skin‑friendly, hypoallergenic tape such as MyoTape, which is designed to be gentle while still encouraging nasal breathing.

🌱 Clear your nasal passages before sleep with a rinse, spray, or simple breathing exercises to ensure airflow feels natural.

🌱 Stay consistent by using tape nightly, giving your body time to adapt to the new habit.

🌱 Track your progress with a sleep app, wearable device, or feedback from a partner to see if snoring, sleep quality, or morning energy improve.

🌱 Try breathing exercises such as those from the Buteyko Method, which can help retrain your breathing patterns and make nasal breathing feel easier both during the day and at night.

These small adjustments can help ensure that mouth taping works as intended, turning it into a reliable tool for better rest and daily energy.

MyoTape makes mouth taping at night easier and safer. Designed by breathing expert Patrick McKeown, it gently surrounds the lips without sealing them shut, allowing you to breathe comfortably while encouraging nasal breathing through the night. Unlike other tapes, MyoTape is skin‑friendly, hypoallergenic, and versatile.

So safe, many are suitable for internal use

These oils - along with the wider foundations of holistic wellness are part of my daily life.

I believe stress is one of the main contributing factors to mouth breathing right now. When we're stressed the brain believes we're in danger and as a result we breathe faster, harder and shallower.

In other words 'hyperventilating’. This doesn't mean you have to be breathless, it simply means breathing more than you need, 'over-breathing’.

The more you over breathe the more stressed your brain feels and reacts with more over breathing, this over-breathing feeds back into the emotional and physical reaction until something changes.

Over time continuous stress will create the habit of prioritising the mouth to breathe, and before you know it, you're breathing this way day and night!! I come across people all the time who don't actually notice how they breathe, and have no idea that it should be through the nose.

If there are no physical reasons that are causing obstruction to nose breathing you can train yourself to go back to functional breathing.

As a certified Buteyko Functional Breathing practitioner, l can support you using a selection of exercises and lifestyle actions to reintroduce nose breathing.

Life can be more manageable when your breathing is through the nose so it’s functional and calm, the brain can then process and react with better emotional balance and positive energy rather than over react because it feels safe when we’re calmly nose breathing.

Thank you June.

My holistic practice involves massage, acupressure and sweeping techniques. This can bring you to a deeply relaxed state allowing your body and mind to switch off, so you’re fully available to the benefits of my touch. The treatment can bring increased blood flow, tension release, improved tone, brightness and hydration along with many more benefits.

I use Tropic organic skincare products created with fresh active ingredients to provide your skin with exactly what it needs. Everything I use smells divine. This together with aromas of my DoTerra essential oils deliver a wholesome mind and body experience.

I practise mostly from home where I’ve created a calm and restful space. I use a heated blanket with a weighted blanket to bring a sense of comfort and security. I play a carefully selected range of music along with the aromatics of my essential oils that gently distract and please the senses.

Please contact me if you'd like to make a booking or have any questions.

Nature knows best which I wholeheartedly believe and that extends to the power of these incredible dôTERRA essential oils. When we take something that comes from the earth and use it on or within ourself, it has an inherent ability to go where it’s needed most; peppermint for a headache, lavender for restlessness and citrus oils for mood and so on.

The oils work on so many levels; aromatically, topically and internally. They’re like nature's medicine cabinet but be careful which oils you choose. Not all essential oils are created equally!

I was introduced to dôTERRA in 2016. Since then the oils have become a major part of my life.

I instinctively knew these were special and have built up a good collection of oils which I use consistently. For me, it’s a great feeling to have control of my physical, emotional and mental well-being by using natural tools such as essential oils. I like to think of them as nature's medicine cabinet, my first aid kit and mood management system. The oils provide me with alternatives to conventional first aid kits, healthcare and beauty products, toxic cleaning products and even ingredients in cooking.

The possibilities are endless.

The less you breathe, the more your body retains your carbon dioxide. This will pass into the blood stream and indicate to the red blood cells to release more oxygen throughout your body into your brain.

A slower breath rate means that you are calmer and more relaxed, and your breaths per minute are around 7 and under.

When you’re breathing through your nose that is automatic because the two small narrow holes mean that the breath comes in much slower.

Why not make a conscious effort to keep your lips together and keep your tongue resting on the roof of your mouth and really focus on harnessing the brilliance that is your nose to breathe all of the time?

Always remember good tongue posture. Your tongue should be suctioned up against the roof of the mouth.

If you have any heart conditions, other illnesses you’re unsure about and if you’re pregnant always seek advice from your medical professional first before trying breath holds.

When you start mouth taping, the results can be subtle at first. Over time, small changes in how you feel and how you sleep can reveal whether it’s making a difference. Here are some practical signs to look for:

1. Waking up refreshed
When mouth taping begins to work, mornings often feel lighter and less like a struggle.
This new sense of energy can be one of the clearest ways to tell if mouth taping is working.

2. Less dry mouth
A sticky, dry mouth in the morning usually means you’ve been breathing through your mouth at night.
If mouth taping reduces this, it may be a sign that nasal breathing is becoming your default.

3. Longer, more continuous sleep
Interrupted nights can leave you feeling like you never truly rested.
Noticing longer stretches of uninterrupted sleep is often an early sign that mouth taping is starting to make a difference.
Even if you wake up, you are able to go back to sleep quickly.

4. Reduced snoring and easier breathing
Snoring often improves when the mouth stays gently closed, allowing the nose to do the work.
If your partner notices quieter nights, it could be a clue that mouth taping is helping.

5. Steadier daytime energy
The benefits of mouth taping often show up during the day as much as at night.
Feeling less drowsy during conversations, driving, or work may reflect that your sleep quality is improving.

6. Fewer nighttime bathroom trips
Frequent waking to use the bathroom can sometimes be linked to disrupted breathing and lighter sleep.
If mouth taping helps you stay asleep longer, those nighttime trips may become less frequent.

7. Better endurance and recovery
Improved nasal breathing during sleep can support more efficient recovery.
When mouth taping is working, you may notice more stamina in workouts and steadier energy in daily life.

MYOTAPE is a rectangular piece of elasticated fabric with a hole in the centre.
The reason for elasticity is in order to stretch the tape to around 30% more before fixing it around the mouth, this creates a tension that encourages the muscles surrounding the mouth to stay closed, then the nose becomes the primary space for breathing.
